You’re returning to Zee TV after a long time. Does it feel like a homecoming?

Absolutely! Zee TV has always been a special part of my journey. My popular show Naagin was also on Zee, and people still remember me by that name. I did a few cameos in between, but now it truly feels like a ‘homecoming.’ Both the network and production team welcomed me with immense warmth and affection.

Tell us about your new character, Maya Deshmukh.

Maya Deshmukh is a business tycoon — a strong, assertive woman whose word is final. On the outside, she appears as tough as steel, but deep within, she’s soft and emotional. She’s a mother to a young daughter and faces several personal challenges. The character is multi-layered — it blends strength, sensitivity, and struggle beautifully. Maya perfectly represents today’s modern woman.

Is there a connection between Maya and Jagadhatri?

Yes, the story intricately weaves a mysterious bond between Jagadhatri, Shivay, and Maya — a bond that unfolds gradually. With every episode, new layers of their thoughts, emotions, and motives are revealed. Both Maya and Shivay form the backbone of the story — while Maya symbolizes confidence, intelligence, and progressiveness, Shivay represents sensitivity and strength. Through their intertwined relationships and conflicts, Jagadhatri powerfully explores themes like strength, womanhood, and justice.

How do you see the story of Jagadhatri?

I feel it’s a very progressive story. It beautifully depicts the many roles women play today — as daughters, mothers, sisters, friends, bosses, and working professionals. Every character is written with truth and depth. The show has everything — drama, emotion, action, and passion — it’s a complete package for viewers.

You’ve been part of the television industry for many years. How has your journey been?

My journey has been long and full of learning. When I started, shows used to run for years; now they wrap up within months. But I’m still here and still relevant — that makes me proud. I’ve always been sincere toward my work. I come from a middle-class Bengali family with no formal acting training, but I’ve always loved being in front of the camera. My honesty and dedication have kept me going.

These days, casting often depends on social media following. What’s your take on that?

True, today trends change very fast, and people often judge popularity based on followers and likes. But real talent never goes out of demand. Whether it’s TV, web, theatre, or social media — a genuine artist can never be replaced. If you have passion, skill, and sincerity, you’ll always hold your place, regardless of changing times or platforms. That’s the beauty of true artistry — it remains unaffected by trends or algorithms.

What message would you like to give aspiring actors?

First, understand why you want to join this industry. It shouldn’t just be for fame or money — your love for the art should be your true motivation. If your intention is pure, you’ll go a long way.

Any message for your fans and viewers?

I just want to say that Jagadhatri is a very progressive, women-centric, and empowering show. The makers have tried to bring something fresh and inspiring. Now it’s up to the audience — the more you support such shows, the more meaningful and powerful stories will be made.
