Shaan Groverr Shines in Saiyaara: Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda starrer film Saiyaara is currently dominating the box office. In just five days since its release, the film has collected around ₹132 crore. Amid this massive success, one name that audiences have especially noticed is that of the film’s villain — Shaan Groverr. The actor has stunned viewers with his intense performance and powerful screen presence. In a recent interview, Shaan opened up about his hard work, self-belief, and the importance of getting the right opportunities. Let’s find out what he had to say…

  • How does it feel to play a villain in a big film like ‘Saiyaara’?

Honestly, I didn’t expect this kind of response. This is my first Hindi film, and it collected over ₹100 crores in its opening weekend. My character has left a lasting impression on audiences. I’ve struggled a lot—gave countless auditions, faced rejections—and then ‘Saiyaara’ happened. I’m truly happy. For me, ‘Saiyaara’ is a turning point.

  • How did you land the role in ‘Saiyaara’?

I remember it was the night of June 10, I was on another shoot, and I got a call from Bharti from Shanoo Sharma Ma’am’s team. She said Mohit Suri sir is making a film with Ahaan in the lead. I gave three rounds of auditions and was selected out of 200–300 people. The role felt challenging, and it was, but I had faith in myself—and here we are.

  • What kind of response have you received—especially from fans, girls and boys?

The response from girls has been very positive. Many girls commented, “Don’t worry, you’re good in real life, people just hate the character.” Boys were a bit on the hate side, but that too was character-driven. I was honestly shocked that people are connecting so intensely. It feels great that the character is leaving an impact.

  • Despite limited promotions, the film has become so popular—what do you think worked?

I believe the film was presented purely as a story. It was the characters that were promoted, not our real-life identities. All the social media, music—everything focused on the characters. That was the strongest strategy. I believe as long as the film is running, keep the characters in the spotlight.

  • How difficult was it to play a negative character?

Very difficult. Personally, I have great respect for women, so playing a role that involves control, possessiveness, and manipulation was emotionally disturbing. Mohit sir really guided me and said, “Bring back that raw emotion from your audition.” I showed the character’s obsession through my eyes—and it worked.

  • How’s your bonding with Ahaan Panday?

Ahaan and I go way back. He’s my cheerleader, and I’m his.

  • What was it like working with a director like Mohit Suri?

He’s grand, iconic, and a master of emotions. Be it Aashiqui 2 or Murder 2, all his films have powerful emotions and music. He pulled a character out of me that even I hadn’t imagined.

  • How did you feel during the film’s screening?

We were all nervous and excited. Once people watched the film, many got emotional—some even cried. Every member of the team—costume, makeup, hair—was thrilled, because all the hard work paid off.

  • Have you ever experienced a love like in ‘Saiyaara’?

Yes, I have. And I’ve also been through something like what happened with Vani’s character.

  • Do you have any upcoming projects in the pipeline?

Yes, I’m working on a musical web series called ‘Jangalpur’, where I play the lead. It’s a supernatural love story, and it will show a completely new side of me.
