Bollywood's charming and handsome actor Shahid Kapoor, who started his career as a background dancer and is now a successful star, recently appeared on a podcast with Raj Shamani. In this podcast, he opened up about his struggles, career, successes and failures, and personal life.
When He Didn't Have Money to Buy Clothes
In the podcast, Shahid reminisced about his early days and shared how he didn't have enough money to buy clothes. He said, "Today, people say that Shahid has a great fashion sense. I laugh when I hear that because I remember when I couldn't even gather enough money to buy clothes from the local market."
Bullied by Other Kids
In the podcast, Shahid also shared how he was bullied by other children because his parents separated when he was just 3 years old. He lived with his mother and could only meet his father once a year. He said, "I come from a broken home. When I was three, my parents separated, and I mostly stayed with my mother. I could meet my father only once a year."
Parents Are Like Two Legs
Shahid explained how difficult it was growing up with separated parents. He said, "Parents are like your two legs. But when one leg is missing, it feels like you can't balance yourself. Both parents play an important role, and you can't define it. As a child, I was made to feel different because I didn't have both parents together. Children can be really mean sometimes. They don't know what they are doing, but it felt like my life was over."
Despite his father’s absence, Shahid mentioned how his grandfather was always there for him. He said, "I have many wonderful memories with my grandfather."
Talking About Heartbreak
In the podcast, Shahid also opened up about the pain of heartbreak. He said, "Sometimes when your heart is broken, you start thinking you're not good enough." He talked about how deep love followed by rejection often leads people to desperate attempts to save the relationship. Shahid’s relationship with Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan lasted for 3 years, though his name has also been linked with several other actresses.
Doesn't Want His Kids to Become Actors
Shahid also revealed that he doesn’t want his children to follow in his footsteps as actors. He said, "Always do the right thing. I always try to do the right thing, whether I like it or not, whether it harms me or not. I’ll always do the right thing."
When discussing parenting, Shahid shared his perspective that one parent should be gentle and soft, while the other should be strict. He said, "I’m the soft parent, while my wife Mira is strict with the kids."
