Netflix’s upcoming romantic film ‘Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan’ is all set to grace the big screen soon. In this film, lead actors Shanaya Kapoor and Vikrant Massey are seen in prominent roles. During their exclusive conversation with Mayapuri Magazine’s journalist Shilpa Patil, both actors shared interesting insights about the story, character preparation, the blindfold dance sequence, on-screen chemistry, and shooting experiences. This conversation became even more special with emotional moments and many untold stories from the film. Let’s find out what they had to say…
Welcome to Mayapuri. The teaser of ‘Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan’ is receiving a lot of appreciation. How excited are both of you seeing the audience’s reaction?
Vikrant: Thank you so much, Shilpa ji! The love the teaser has received is very special. The trailer is yet to be released, but the response so far has made us very happy.
Shanaya: This is my first film, and I had been waiting for this moment for a long time. Now that the day is finally here, my heart is filled with excitement. I hope the audience is as excited as I am!
Your on-screen chemistry looks beautiful. Was there any special preparation or process behind it?
Shanaya: When you understand your character and work on it, chemistry begins to build naturally. I had a good off-screen bonding with Vikrant, which reflected in our on-screen connection as well.
Vikrant: Absolutely. The camera captures your inner truth. If you understand and respect each other, it shows on screen. Shanaya is a hardworking and perceptive co-actor.
There is a blindfold dance sequence in the teaser. Was it actually shot blindfolded?
Shanaya: Yes, it was a real blindfold. Initially, I was nervous, but gradually I prepared myself and became comfortable. It was a challenging experience. Though the audience sees it just once, I practiced it a lot.
Vikrant: Let me tell you, we even did the rehearsals blindfolded, so we could shoot with perfect timing and movements. The team's support was also very important.
Vikrant, you’ve played many serious and intense roles before. How was it playing a romantic, classical role this time?
Vikrant: This was a new challenge for me. For the first time, I’m doing a classical Bollywood romance with songs, dance, and the intensity of a blind character. This role came to me through Ruskin Bond’s story ‘The Eyes Have It’, which inspired the film.
Any memorable moments from the sets you’d like to share?
Shanaya: The train sequence was the first scene we shot. I was very nervous, but Vikrant spoke to me and made me feel comfortable. That conversation gave depth to my performance, and I did the scene really well.
How was the experience of working with each other?
Vikrant: I must say I learned a lot from Shanaya. She worked so hard in her very first film that I was truly impressed. Working with her was an enriching experience.
Shanaya: Working with an experienced actor like Vikrant was a privilege. He always guided me and supported me in every scene.
The audience is loving your chemistry. What would you like to say to them about the film?
Vikrant: The film is releasing in theatres on July 11. It’s a clean, family-friendly romantic film with great songs and a heart-touching story. We hope the audience will definitely enjoy it.
Shanaya: This film is not just entertainment—it carries a message. When I read the script, I understood and learned a lot about myself. I hope the audience will also be touched by this story.
Special
In this interview, Vikrant Massey shared a beautiful and inspiring thought. He said that every year, he likes to work with a new director so that he can feel like a newcomer again. This process gives him freshness, novelty, and the opportunity to challenge himself. He added that working with Shanaya Kapoor gave him the same feeling because she showed tremendous dedication and passion in her very first film. According to Vikrant, this mindset keeps an artist grounded and creatively alive.
In ‘Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan’, Vikrant Massey plays the role of a visually impaired musician, while Shanaya Kapoor—who is making her Bollywood debut with this film—plays a theatre actress. The film is inspired by Ruskin Bond’s story ‘The Eyes Have It’, and is directed by Santosh Singh. The story is written by Mansi Bagla and Niranjan Iyengar.
