• Shubhangi ji, you’ve been working in the industry for a long time. Even after so many years, how do you manage to maintain such a humble and warm relationship with your team and colleagues?

Honestly, the credit doesn’t go to me. The people around me are so lovely, what else can I say? From the producers to Ravi Dubey ji (whom I met in Banaras), everyone is really good-hearted. I’ve always been very fortunate to have wonderful people around me. Maybe it’s the result of my good karma.

• In your new show ‘Ganga Mai Ki Betiyan, ’ you’re playing the role of Ganga. Tell us something about her.

Ganga runs a small mess. Her husband abandoned her only because he wanted a son. Shockingly, even the village council supported him. They told him that he had the right to remarry, provided he gave some land to Ganga. With that piece of land, she started her new life. Ganga is a very strong and self-respecting woman who never gave up. Today, her eatery in Banaras has won people’s hearts. No one leaves her place hungry, whether they have money or not — everyone gets food. For Ganga, the river Ganga is not just a backdrop but a reflection of her own life.

• The show also portrays your three daughters. How do you see that relationship?

I’m very proud of all my daughters. Of course, I worry about their marriages, especially the middle one since she’s a bit rebellious. But my elder daughter is very mature — she’s like my shadow and helps me run the mess. The youngest is bright in studies and manages the accounts. Honestly, all three of my daughters are the apple of my eye.

• On-screen and off-screen, how is your bonding with your co-actors?

Off-screen, we’re not just mother and daughters — we’re like friends. But what I really admire about today’s generation is their respectfulness and spirituality. In our times, we were rebellious, even questioned God. But this generation is very wise and hardworking. Sometimes they even tell the director directly, “Sir, you said this, so we are doing it like that.” Whereas in our time, we were only taught to say, “Sorry, Sir.” That’s the difference between generations.

• What message would you like to give the audience?
