Mahesh Bhatt was the eldest son of Nanabhai Bhatt who was a renowned filmmaker of the 50’s. he had a wife and a Muslim “friend” who was the mother of Mahesh Bhatt.

Mahesh had lived a turbulent life. He was an alcoholic during his youth and was a part of the “Flower generation” which meant that those who were a part of this brigade believed in a free life with free sex and drugs being a part of it.

He had a stormy relationship with his first wife Kiran and had separated leaving his children with Kiran.

He was making “Saaransh” when he fell in love with Soni Rajdaan and got converted to Islam to marry her . It was from this marriage that Aalia was born with her sister Muskaan following her.

Aalia grew up as a typical Bombay girl and was interested in being an actress like her step sister Pooja Bhatt who had tried and failed before Aalia could be born.

Aalia was one of the hundreds who tried for roles in Karan Johar’s “Student of The Year”. And call it nepotism or whatever you want, Aalia was one of the young girls who was selected to play a lead role in the film which went on to be a success and also a critically acclaimed film.

And if Aalia was not talented enough, would she have grown with every film she did? And reached the peak of her career before her time.

She was consistently appreciated and was loved and awarded for her performances in films like “ Highway”, “Raazi”, “Gully Boys” and “Kalank”, again directed by her mentor Karan Johar.

By this time she was recognized as the most pname opular and powerful actresses of the new generation and was also the highest paid. Aalia Bhatt had established herself as a name to reckon with.

She had to face a tough time when an actress like Kangana Ranawat declared the very hostile war against the industry and especially against actresses like Deepika Padukone, Katerina Kaif and especially Aalia.

She had to face another attack when her father’s film “Sadak 2” with her in a lead role flopped miserably even on an OTT platform.

The only thing that apparently kept her going was her love for Ranbir Kapoor and they were supposed to get married but Miss Korona ruined their romantic plans.

Aalia is now at another crossroad of her life and career. She has two big films waiting for release, “Gangubai Kathiawadi” and “Brahmastra”.

And there is “RRR”, the Magnum Opus being directed by S S Rajamouli, the maker of “Baahubali”.

And there are films being planned by Sanjay Bhansaali who has directed her in “Gangubai Kathiawadi” and a film called “Darlings” to be produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s company.

I cannot say much about Aalia’s work till her other films, but I am very sure that “Gangubai Kathiawadi” will be her make or break films.

On her 28th birthday I as an old friend of her father and mother can only wish her the world she wishes to conquer.
