Bombay High Court reprimanded CBFC over Kangana Ranaut's Emergency

Kangana Ranaut's film Emergency is currently in the news. A hearing was held in the Bombay High Court today regarding the release certificate of the film Emergency. Due to this the Bombay High Court has reprimanded the CBFC for not taking a decision on issuing a certificate to the film Emergency.

 Bombay High Court orders CBFC to take decision by September 25

Let us tell you that the Bombay High Court on Thursday said that creative freedom and freedom of expression cannot be curbed and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cannot refuse to certify a film just because there is a possibility of law and order problem. The court expressed displeasure with the CBFC for not taking a decision on issuing a certificate to the Kangana Ranaut starrer film Emergency and ordered a decision by September 25. The division bench of Justice BP Colabawala and Firdaus Pooniwala also asked whether the CBFC thinks that the people of this country are so naive that they will believe everything shown in the film.

Producers blame film organization for delay in release

On the petitioner's claim that the CBFC was delaying the issuance of a certificate to the film for political reasons, the High Court said that the film's co-producer and director Kangana Ranaut herself is a sitting BJP MP and questioned whether the ruling party was working against its own leader. Emergency was scheduled to release on September 6. Kangana earlier this week accused the CBFC of delaying the certificate to delay the release.

CBFC will have to take a decision- Bombay High Court 

At the same time, the Bombay High Court bench said, "You (CBFC) have to take a decision one way or the other. You should have the courage to say that this film cannot be released. At least then we will appreciate your courage and bravery. We do not want the CBFC to remain neutral". The court was hearing a petition filed by Zee Entertainment Enterprises, which sought a direction to the CBFC to issue a certificate for the film Emergency. This biographical drama has been mired in controversy after Sikh organizations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, raised objections. These organizations have accused the film of misrepresenting the community and misinterpreting historical facts.

Written and directed by Kangana Ranaut, 'Emergency' stars her in the lead role and also features Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair and the late Satish Kaushik in pivotal roles. Produced by Zee Studios, Manikarnika Films and Renu Pitti, the film's music is composed by Sanchit Balhara and GV Prakash Kumar, while the screenplay and dialogues are written by Ritesh Shah. Kangana Ranaut plays the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film. The film was earlier scheduled to release on September 6.
