South Indian film superstar Rana Daggubati (South actor Rana Daggubati ) is in a big controversy these days. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had summoned Rana for questioning in a money laundering case linked to an illegal online betting app, but the actor did not appear on the scheduled date. Now the ED has sent a notice to him to appear again on August 11. In this case, the names of many famous stars of Tollywood and Bollywood are coming up.

A case of illegal earnings of crores of rupees through illegal online betting apps has come to light in Telangana. It is being said that many film stars and social media influencers have been paid huge sums of money to promote these apps. Through these apps, common people were lured and encouraged to engage in betting, which is illegal under Indian law. The ED has initiated an investigation into the case based on five FIRs registered by the Telangana Police. In this case, the ED's focus is on which stars are connected to these apps and to what extent they are promoted.

Why did the names of the stars come to the fore?

In this investigation, not only Rana Daggubati, but many other famous names are also under the eye of the ED. ED recently summoned Prakash Raj on July 30, Vijay Deverakonda on August 6, and Lakshmi Manchu on August 13. All of them will be questioned about financial transactions related to the promotion of online betting apps.

Brand promotion or illegal promotion?

According to sources, some stars have claimed that they were not aware that the platforms they are promoting are linked to illegal betting. He says he only did it as brand promotion and not as part of any criminal activity. However, ED will register a statement under PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act) to ascertain the truth of these claims.

What does the law say?

Under the Money Laundering Act (PMLA), strict action can be taken if a person promotes, tries to launder money in any form or is involved in that process. It also has a provision for monetary penalty as well as imprisonment. In such cases, mere promotion also comes under scrutiny, especially when large sums of money are transacted.

After ignoring Rana Daggubati's summons, ED summoned him again on August 11. Now everyone's eyes are fixed on whether Rana will come forward this time and what will be said. The direction of investigation can be decided from his statement. If Rana makes a big revelation, then this case can reach even bigger film and business figures. ED's investigation is not limited to just stars. Now the agency is also reaching out to companies and promoters who played a role in marketing and promoting these apps. Social media campaigns, payment systems, and bank accounts are also being scrutinized for technical scrutiny.
