Be it acting or direction, Farhan Akhtar has made his mark in every field of glamour. Son of scriptwriter Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani, Farhan Akhtar's childhood was quite different from other children of his age. However, the separation of his parents in 1985 brought a lot of changes in Farhan's life. Meanwhile, Farhan Akhtar, along with his wife Shibani Dandekar, talked about his parents' separation and the impact it had on him as a child.
Farhan spoke about his parents' separation
In fact, Farhan Akhtar talked about his parents' separation in the latest episode of Rhea Chakraborty's podcast Chapter 2. He shared, "A defining moment for me that changed my whole perspective about things is probably my parents' separation. Until then, it seemed like everything was fine. I think it made me withdraw even more into my shell because being young, I didn't really know what was happening."
'Zoya has always been older and wiser than her age'- Farhan Akhtar
Continuing his point, Farhan further said, "I had absolutely no idea what was happening. Zoya was very much aware of what was happening and I think in some way, being the elder one, she protected me from the kind of grief that my mother was going through at that time. I think as a girl, my mother was more comfortable talking to her. And Zoya has always been older and wiser than her age. She grew up very fast. Whereas, I was just in my own world, unaware of what was happening."
Farhan underwent psychological changes after his parents' separation
Talking about the psychological changes he went through after his parents' separation, Farhan said, "I think I became very defensive after my parents' separation, because when we fought, kids behaved very badly, and kids don't have that filter, so they say anything that can hurt the other child. They don't realise how much psychological or emotional damage they are causing to someone. I think that was the part that made me angry 'Why do I have to listen to this?'". Farhan said, "The biggest impact it had on my personality was that it made me completely non-confrontational. Whenever there is a sign of conflict, my first instinct is to move away. Instead of sitting down and finding a solution to the problem or understanding the problem, I completely disengage. My first instinct is not to want to be there".
