Kunal Kemmu's Directorial Debut: Balancing Roles and Challenges

Since I know Kunal as a talented child-artiste in his hit comedy musical movie ‘Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke‘ (1993), I asked him why he decided ‘not’ to act in the movie as well apart from directing it. Smiling at my question Kunal Ravi Kemmu (Khemu) frankly shared, that he has taken on the director’s for the very first time, so he wanted to make the best out of it. If he is directing a movie he wants to keep his focus only on directing and not acting, he really cannot do both jobs as it will divert the focus from any one role. The talented Kunal does not want to be such a director, who after setting up a camera keeps looking into the mirror and then faces the camera, he wishes to keep his focus only on direction. Talking about the challenges the actor had, he added, that he has been on the shooting-sets since childhood, so he has a good knowledge of direction and filmmaking, and when he was writing about the movie he was writing it keeping in mind that he will also act but gradually he decided ‘only’ to direct the movie. He also adds that with his vast acting experience of past over 25 years, he understands the actor’s side very well too. When he was giving commands as the director, he could understand both directing-acting sides which was making things very smooth and very clear,” explains versatile lead actor Kunal whose performance was appreciated in movies such as the ‘Golmaal’ series, Kalyug, Doondte Reh Jaaoge, Kalank, Blood Money, Lootcase, Superstar and of course in zombie-action comedy ‘Go Goa Gone’ (2013) in which he acted with star brother-in-law Saif Ali Khan. Incidentally, Kunal also shared that a sequel ‘Goa Goa Gone-2  was in the offing, to be released by end 2025. However, there are whispers-rumours that Kunal has put in a cameo guest-appearance in his directorial debut movie/ ‘Madgaon Express’ .

Meanwhile the natural actress-vivacious-dancer-‘great-performer’ Nora Fatehi who is the highlight scene-stealer in ‘Madgaon Express’ known for her ‘hot-oomph-sex-appeal’ spoke to me directly. Said Nora,“Considering I am not fully trained, it was such a delight to work with ‘debut-director’ Kumal Kemmu who gave me full scope as an actress-dancer performer and bring out my acting talents in situational crazy comedy. Generally it is considered tough to make audiences laugh, but in ‘Madgaon Express’ people will see me excel in cool comedy as well. Its such an organic joy to make audiences laugh. It was also awesome dancing and performing to chartbusting original songs like   ‘Baby Bring it On ’,  and  ‘Raaton Ke Nazaare’. Honestly,  all of us had a crazy blast doing this mad yet engaging comedy called ‘Madgaon Express’. Am confident all my ardent fans will love me in my different zaraa hatke screen-avataar, “ insists the modest, honest Nora who was well-appreciated for her striking looks and performance in her previous extreme sports-action thriller movie ‘Crakk’ which released last month. .
