The trailer for Kesari Veer—a period drama featuring Suniel Shetty, Vivek Oberoi, and Sooraj Pancholi—was unveiled on Tuesday, April 29. Actress Akanksha Sharma also plays a key role in the film. The event was attended by the lead cast, writer Kanubhai Chauhan, director Prince Dhiman, and several other members associated with the movie.
Suniel Shetty’s Statement
At the trailer launch, Suniel Shetty stated that Kesari Veer is a film that embodies the essence of Sanatan Dharma. He mentioned that the film portrays the teachings and values that their faith upholds. He also touched on the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam and praised the Indian government for the abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir, calling it a commendable move.
Answering a question from the media, Shetty made a light-hearted comment, saying, "People watch Akshay Kumar’s films in theatres, but some prefer to watch mine for free." He added that today’s generation should definitely watch their classic film Hera Pheri, as people have forgotten how to laugh. He confirmed that the next installment of the franchise is also in the pipeline.
“Raghavan Was Not a Villain”
Speaking about his role in Main Hoon Na, where he played a former army officer named Raghavan who was court-martialed and dismissed as a traitor, Shetty clarified, “A true patriot can never be a villain.” He explained that while the script painted Raghavan as an antagonist, he agreed to the role just two minutes after hearing the story. He recalled that director Farah Khan had asked if he was comfortable playing such a negative role. Shetty responded, “How was that negative? In the film, my son was killed across the border. I only wanted his body returned, and they refused. Wouldn’t that escalate the conflict further?”
Sooraj Pancholi Gets Emotional
At the trailer launch event, actor Sooraj Pancholi became emotional as soon as he was handed the microphone to speak. Suniel Shetty gently placed his hand on Sooraj’s back to comfort him, but Sooraj couldn't hold back his emotions and turned away with tears in his eyes.
Responding to media questions, Sooraj said, “I have a clean heart. The people who truly know me are aware of that. I’ve always had a strong support system—my mother and my sister. They’ve constantly inspired me and taken care of my well-being. That was the first step I took. People think I go to the gym for a good body, but the truth is, I do it for my mind. I’ve always cared for my body because I wanted a strong mind. I do have that now, and there’s still a long road ahead. I’ve been through a lot already, so I’ll handle what comes next too.”
Sooraj Pancholi will be seen playing the role of Hamirji Gohil in Kesari Veer—a historical figure known for fighting against the Tughlaq empire and saving the Somnath Temple from destruction.
Suniel Shetty Stands by Sooraj
Following Sooraj’s remarks, Suniel Shetty spoke to the media and said, “He’s been through a lot, and now he’s been given a second chance. Believe me, this opportunity has been given by the Almighty—by Mahadev. Whenever I see him on screen, I feel like I’m watching Ahan (his own son). He’s put in the same kind of effort, with the same kind of heart.”
Suniel went on to comment on the challenges faced by both Sooraj Pancholi and his son Ahan Shetty in the film industry, saying, “Earlier, films were made for the audience. Nowadays, they’re made for money. A CEO can never make a film; only a director or an artist can. Give them the right films, and then you’ll see what they can do. If you watch Kesari Veer, you’ll see Sooraj stand out among everyone. That’s a fact. The struggle is always there. You’ll go through it too, but I believe one Friday will change it all for you. But even that depends on the subject, your co-actors, and the choices you make.”
According to the makers of Kesari Veer, the film is “an inspiring story of unsung warriors who, in the 14th century, fought valiantly to defend the Somnath Temple from invaders and sacrificed their lives.”
Starring Suniel Shetty, Vivek Oberoi, and Sooraj Pancholi, Kesari Veer is set to release in theatres on May 16, 2025. The film is produced under the banners of Panorama Studios and Chauhan Studios. The music is composed by Monty Sharma, with cinematography by Vikas Joshi.
