Nawazuddin revealed that before 2012, his career was going through a very difficult phase. He said, "I was given many opportunities, but they were snatched away at the last moment. Many films that were supposed to be mine were given to someone else. At that time, I felt as if I was unlucky. Every time something good happened, it would suddenly end." But every time, a small thing or hope gave me the strength to rise again. This continued for about 7-8 years."

Nawazuddin said that the most difficult phase of his life came about five years before his success. "I lost many of my friends—some in accidents, some due to mental problems, and one committed suicide. We were all strugglers, living close to each other. When I saw so much pain around me, I was broken from within." He said, "One day I was standing near the railway track. A train was coming, and I thought—should I just move on?
But then my heart said, 'No, I shouldn't go like this. Life will forgive me, just like acting has done.'" Nawazuddin said that at that very moment he realized how precious life is and perhaps God signaled him to give him another chance.
