Oscar 2024 Nominations: No Indian Film Included, Full Categories List

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the shortlist for the 96th Academy Awards to be held in 2024. Fifteen films have been named to the Oscar shortlist.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the shortlist for the 96th Academy Awards to be held in 2024. Fifteen films have been named to the Oscar shortlist, including International Feature Film, Documentary, Sound, Original Score, Original Song, Makeup and Hairstyling, Visual Effects, Live-Action Short Film, Documentary Short Subject, and Animated Short Film.

Many surprises in the Oscar shortlist

The Malayalam film 2018 was expected to find a place in the international feature list but it failed and could not make it to the shortlist. Not only this, but there are other surprises in the latest Oscar shortlist.

No Indian film could make it to the Oscar shortlist

While a 2018 film based on the devastating floods in the state of Kerala did not qualify, some notable titles advanced to international features. The Zone of Interest (United Kingdom), Tran Anh Hung's The Taste of Things (France), Lila Avila's Totem (Mexico), and Aki Kaurismäki's Fallen Leaves (Finland). Unfortunately, there are no entries from India. In this way, this year no Indian film could be included in the shortlist of the Academy Awards.

The surprising shortlist of Oscar 2024

Interestingly, there were some surprises in this year's shortlist. Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, which battled Barbie at the box office, failed to secure a spot in the visual effects category. Nevertheless, the film has found a place in makeup, sound, and score mentions. The shortlists are highly anticipated because they provide an early indication of which films may receive significant support from special sections of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and which will be left behind.

Voting will be open from January 11 to January 16

The Academy Awards category lists are open for voting from January 11 to January 16, with official nominations to be released on January 23. The 96th Academy Awards will be held on March 10, and final voting will take place from February 22 to 27.
