PM Modi pays tribute to B Saroja Devi: Hindi and Tamil veteran actress B Saroja Devi passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the age of 87 (B Saroja Devi Death). The actress died at her residence in Malleswaram, Bengaluru, due to age-related illnesses (B Saroja Devi Death Reason). At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of veteran actress B Saroja Devi. On the eve, Prime Minister Modi talked about her legacy spanning more than six decades in Indian cinema.

Prime Minister Modi wrote on Twitter, "I am saddened by the demise of renowned film personality B Saroja Devi ji. She will be remembered as an exemplary icon of Indian cinema and culture. Her diverse performances have left an indelible mark on generations. Her works, based on different languages and diverse subjects, have highlighted her versatility. My condolences to her family and fans. Om Shanti".

Saroja Devi's Career

Known for her versatility and variety, B Saroja Devi acted in more than 200 films in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Sinhalese languages. Saroja Devi started her acting career at the age of 17 and got her first break in the Kannada film Mahakavi Kalidas (1955), also known as the first female superstar of Kannada cinema. The actress won a National Award for her performance in her very first film. Her Tamil film, Nadodi Mannan (1958), with another legendary actor and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MG Ramachandran, made her one of the top actresses of Tamil cinema. Though she got married in 1967, Saroja Devi remained in demand, especially in the Tamil film industry.

B Saroja Devi Awards

B Saroja Devi was awarded the Padma Shri in 1969 and the Padma Bhushan in 1992. She also received an honorary doctorate from Bangalore University and the Kalaimamani Award of Tamil Nadu. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008.
