Sandeep Reddy Vanga's film Animal, released in December 2023, proved to be a big blockbuster at the box office, although it received mixed reactions from the audience. At the same time, the film faced a lot of criticism. From social media to many big stars, this film was termed as anti-women. Meanwhile, now Ranbir Kapoor has broken his silence on the criticism for the first time.
Ranbir Kapoor reacted to the criticism
In fact, in Nikhil Kamath's podcast, when the host claimed that films should not be a place from where society gets its sense of morality and should be watched only for entertainment, Ranbir Kapoor responded to this question and shared that this was the intention behind Animal, but it was misinterpreted. He said, "Social media wreaked havoc. They needed something to talk about, so they actually claimed that it is an anti-women film. What happens is that the hard work you put in. I know the director who made Kabir Singh also faced the same thing, the hard work gets reduced. Because it got this tag, which is not true, the perception remained with this film."
"I apologize silently"- Ranbir Kapoor
Ranbir Kapoor continued, "So the general public will talk about the film very lovingly, but I meet many people who tell me. You should not have done this film, we are very disappointed with you. Many people from the film industry said the same thing. I silently apologize and say, sorry, I will not do this next time. I actually do not agree with them, but I am at that stage of my life where I do not argue with anyone. If you do not like my work, I will say forgive me, I will try harder next time".
Ranbir did Animal to break free from his "good boy" image
Ranbir Kapoor also confessed that he agreed to work in Animal to break free from his "good boy" image on screen. He said, "I have always been on a career path where I was doing good roles, trying to give good social messages, basically playing the 'good boy', which was my coming-of-age romantic image. So, I found this too bold and adult-rated. I was scared that the audience might not accept me. When the film was released, even though it did amazing collections and we got a lot of love, there is a large audience that thought the film is somehow misogynistic and misogynistic."
The story of Animal revolves around the father-son relationship
The film Animal revolves around a troubled father-son relationship. It stars Ranbir Kapoor as Ranvijay Singh, who sets out to take revenge after an assassination attempt on his father. The film Animal also stars Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, Tripti Dimri and Anil Kapoor in pivotal roles. A sequel to the film, Animal Park, is also being made.
