Born in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh, Rajagopal Raju was a pharmacist and spent most of his professional life in North India due to his job. Hence, Ravi Teja lived in several cities including Jaipur, Delhi and Mumbai before entering the film industry. Rajagopal Raju is survived by his wife Rajya Lakshmi and two sons including Ravi Teja. His third son, actor Bharath Raju, died in a car accident in 2017.

Chiranjeevi expressed condolences 

Trade analyst Ramesh Bala has shared a condolence message of superstar Chiranjeevi on social media. In the message, he wrote, "I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the demise of Ravi Teja's father Raj Gopal Raju garu. I last met him on the sets of Valtair Veerayya. In this difficult time, I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family. I pray for the peace of his soul".
