Bollywood actress Sanya Malhotra, who made waves with her performance in songs like Aankh with Sunidhi Chauhan and her roles in films like Dangal, Kathal, and Meenakshi Sundareshwar, is back with her new film Mrs.. The trailer of this much-anticipated film was launched on January 26.
The trailer was launched at the Kala Ghoda Art Festival in Mumbai, and it has created a buzz. On this special occasion, Sanya looked elegant in a baby pink shimmering saree, paired with a choker necklace and a neat bun. Meanwhile, the film’s hero, Nishant Dahiya, was seen in a white shirt, brown pants, and a blazer. The film’s director, Aarti Kadav, was also present at the event.
Director Aarti Kadav's Statement
During the trailer launch, Aarti Kadav shared the motivation behind making the film. She mentioned that when she first heard the story, she felt that it was a story of everyone—her own, her mother’s, her aunt’s, and her father’s. She said, "I thought I should make this film with great responsibility and love. My goal was to make this film in such a way that people would watch it, question their conditioning, and change their mindset."
When asked if this film would create conflicts in households, she clarified, "We’ve made this film with a lot of thought. When we were shooting, I told the people on set that they too might have experienced this. Our aim is to empower not just women but also men so that they realize they are also victims of this system."
Sanya Malhotra on her Character
Sanya Malhotra, who plays the character Richa in the film, shared her thoughts on her role. "Richa is within all of us," she said. "I’ve seen Richa in my mother, my friends, and in women walking on the streets. This film and this story are very special to me, and close to my heart. As Aarti mentioned, the aim of this film was to make people realize how this small conditioning in our lives, that certain things are women’s work, is wrong. When you watch the film, you’ll question this."
Nishant Dahiya on his Character
Nishant Dahiya, who plays the male lead, Diwakar, discussed his role in the film. "I think Diwakar is very simple. He has grown up in a certain way, influenced by his father, grandfather, and the environment in his family. What he sees happening around him, he believes it’s normal. When I got this role, I didn’t need to look at others or anything external. I just looked within myself. I realized that a part of Diwakar exists in me, and I’ve tried to work on it in many ways. I’m sure when everyone watches the film, they’ll see a bit of Diwakar in themselves."
During the event, Sanya Malhotra revealed that she is quite good at cooking. She said, "If anyone from the audience comes to my home, I’ll make them rajma-chawal, chutney, and raita." Nishant, on the other hand, joked that he would prepare an omelet. Sanya also mentioned that Nishant makes great missi roti.
Both Sanya and Aarti shared their experiences with the Kala Ghoda Art Festival, and it was clear that they had a wonderful time at the event.
Press Interactions
During the press Q&A, a journalist asked Sanya about the film and her experience working on it. She said, "I’m very happy that the trailer is being launched. I hope this film brings about some change in people and society. We have put our 100% into this film."
Mrs. is directed by Aarti Kadav and will be released on the OTT platform Zee5 on February 7.
