Bollywood actors Shahid kapoor and Pooja Hegde's much-awaited action thriller film Deva released its trailer on January 17. During the event, the entire star cast, including Shahid kapoor, Pooja Hegde, director Rosshan Andrrews, Siddharth Roy Kapur, and Pavail Gulati, were present. The trailer launch event also featured a performance on the film's song "Bhasad Macha." In the film, Shahid kapoor plays the role of a police officer, Dev Ambre, while Pooja Hegde portrays a journalist.
Shahid and Pooja’s Look at the Event
At the Deva trailer launch, Shahid kapoor arrived in an all-black look. He wore a black t-shirt paired with matching jeans, a black leather jacket, and black shoes. Pooja Hegde, on the other hand, wore a red short dress. She completed her look with light makeup and loose curly hair. Meanwhile,Siddharth Roy Kapur was seen in blue denim, and Pavail Gulati wore a white t-shirt, black jeans, and a blue shirt.
Shahid Talks About the Comparison with Haider
During the trailer launch, Shahid kapoor was asked about comparisons between Deva and his previous film Haider. He replied, "My look may be similar in both films, but everything else is different – the story, my role, everything. The climax of Deva is extremely unexpected. After watching this film, you'll feel like you could watch it again. Some films have strong trailers but fall short in the full viewing experience. But this is not one of those films. When you watch Deva, you'll never feel like anything was only good in the trailer."
Pooja Hegde on Playing a Journalist
In Deva, Pooja Hegde plays the role of a journalist named Diya. She spoke about her character, saying, "In the film, my character is a match for Shahid’s Dev Ambre. While audiences have seen 'alpha male' characters in films, this time you'll also witness an 'alpha female' character. It is Diya, as a journalist, who gives the tag of mafia or police to Dev."
When asked about the investigative journalist role and whether she received any special direction, Pooja responded, "I’ve always been interested in roles of investigators and journalists. Films like Spotlight made me realize how deep and driven these characters are in their pursuit of truth. Sometimes, these roles go beyond everything else, driven solely by the need to uncover the truth. Rosshan Sir gave me a unique approach, he wanted me to bring out not 'Pooja' but ‘Priya.’ I had to play my character authentically, appear strong but not harsh, and never be afraid to voice my opinions. You'll understand what I mean once you see the film. I hope I did justice to Diya's character.”
Pooja on Being a Crossover Actress
During the trailer launch, Pooja was also asked about her work in both South Indian and Hindi films. She said, "I’m really happy to be a crossover actress. Though I belong to the South, I grew up in Mumbai, so working in different industries feels quite natural for me."
Siddharth Roy Kapur on Producing Deva
When asked about the inspiration behind producing Deva and how the casting came together, Siddharth Roy Kapur, owner of Roy Kapur Films (RKF), shared, "The inspiration came mainly from the story. When I first met Rosshan , we discussed the concept, and I found the story to be unique. After looking at his filmography, I was completely convinced about his capabilities as a director. When we approached Shahid, he felt the same way, and that’s how this project came together. It all started with the story."
Director Rosshan Andrrews on the Filming Journey
Director Rosshan Andrrews was asked about the three-year-long journey of filming Deva and how it was impacted by the changing landscape of action films. He replied, “I always trust my instincts. The success or failure of others doesn’t affect me. For me, every action sequence in Deva is part of the story. We don’t add action just for the sake of it. Every scene has a reason behind it. I’m not worried about how other films are performing. If audiences enjoy Deva, I’ll be happy.”
Shahid’s Kindness to Pavail Gulati
During the filming of Deva, Pavail Gulati shared an experience where Shahid kapoor would bring him lunch boxes. He said, "For about 10 days, my cook wasn’t available at home, so Shahid would bring food for me every day. He’d bring me a whole dabba (box) of food."
Shahid on Saif Ali Khan’s Attack
When asked about the recent attack on Saif Ali Khan, Shahid kapoor expressed his concern, saying, “It’s a very sad incident. We are all very worried in the industry. We hope Saif’s health improves and that he is feeling better. What happened was shocking. Since it was a personal matter, it's hard to fully accept it. I’m sure the police are doing their best. This is something that rarely happens in Mumbai, which is a very safe city. Whether it’s 2 or 3 AM, even if you're a woman, you feel safe here. We’re praying for Saif’s speedy recovery.”
Shahid kapoor and Pooja Hegde’s film Deva is set to release in theaters on January 31. Along with Shahid and Pooja, the film also stars Pavail Gulati, Pravesh Rana, and Kubra Sait.
