In such a situation, Smriti's figure of ₹ 14 lakh is a new benchmark for the industry.

In an interview with the media, when she was asked about her journey, how she started as a struggling actress in 2000 by getting the role of 'Tulsi' and now became the highest paid actress, Smriti smiled and said, "If you have delivered in history, numbers and revenue, then why not? We also have the right as professionals to negotiate our contracts." She further said that she is a part of a union and always registers her union number. According to her, it is not just a matter of pay parity, but she has proved by "earning more than both boys and girls" that one can create a different identity in the industry with hard work and ability.
