Vijay criticised Tamil Nadu government over Kallakurichi liquor tragedy

At least 34 people have died and more than 60 are hospitalized after allegedly consuming illicit liquor in Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu. After the incident, actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay on Thursday, June 20, 2024, condoled the death of 34 people due to illicit liquor and called the incident 'shocking and heartbreaking'.

Thalapathy Vijay expressed condolences to the dead

Thalapathy Vijay wrote in Tamil on his Twitter on Thursday, which roughly translates to, "The news of the death of more than 25 people due to consumption of spurious liquor in Karunapuram area of ​​​​Kallakurichi district is shocking and heartbreaking. I express my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and pray to God for the speedy recovery of those undergoing treatment.

Vijay made this request to the Tamil Nadu government

Thalapathy Vijay further said, "The recurrence of such an incident shows the indifference of the government administration, while it has not yet fully recovered from the tragedy of the death of many people due to a similar incident last year. I strongly request that the Tamil Nadu government should take strict precautionary measures to prevent such incidents in future". Not only this, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has confirmed that the death toll in this incident has risen to 34. He has announced Rs 10 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to those undergoing treatment. He also announced an inquiry commission to submit a report on the Kallakurichi liquor tragedy.

Thalapathy Vijay recently formed a political party

Let us tell you that Thalapathy Vijay has recently formed a political party named Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK). After forming the party, the actor said that he will actively participate in the upcoming Tamil Nadu assembly elections, but not in the 2024 general elections.
