Vijay rally stampede: Actor-politician Thalapathy Vijay was addressing a crowd of over 300,000 people at his political rally in Karur Municipality, Tamil Nadu. During his address, the crowd suddenly became uncontrollable, and a stampede broke out. According to reports, the death toll has risen to 40. Following this tragic incident, Vijay spoke about the unfortunate incident.

Thalapathy Vijay tweeted after the tragic incident. He wrote, "I am deeply saddened. I am in unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow. I express my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of our dear brothers and sisters who lost their lives in Karur. I pray for the speedy recovery of those receiving treatment in the hospital." Vijay also announced a financial assistance of ₹20 lakh each to the families of the deceased and ₹2 lakh each to those receiving treatment in hospitals.

Tamil Nadu DGP G. Venkataraman said that the crowd at Vijay's rally stood for hours without adequate food and water due to the TVK chief's late arrival. Venkataraman said, "Permission was sought between 3 pm and 10 pm. TVK's Twitter account stated that he would arrive at 12 pm, and the crowd started arriving as early as 11 am. He arrived at 7:40 pm." The DGP said he did not intend to blame anyone, but was simply stating the facts. Venkataraman also said that the rally had a larger turnout than expected. The organizers had expected 10,000 people, but according to the DGP, approximately 27,000 people arrived at the venue.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin announced compensation of ₹10 lakh each for the families of those killed in the stampede. He also announced ₹1 lakh each for the injured receiving treatment in hospitals.
