Let us tell you that the discussion about this merger started when a report in the Wall Street Journal last month said that Disney has agreed to sell 60 percent of its Indian business to Viacom18 at a valuation of $3.9 billion. According to news agency Bloomberg, after this merger, the stake of Reliance Industries will be 61 percent and the remaining stake will be with Disney. If reports are to be believed, discussions on this merger have been going on for a long time.

What could be the reason behind this merger?

The reason behind this merger has been said to be the tough competition in India. One reason for this can also be considered in 2022, Reliance defeated Disney to win the streaming rights of the Indian Premier League (IPL). And in April, Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. also secured a multi-year agreement to broadcast HBO shows.
