Ranbir Kapoor who will be playing the role of Sanjay Dutt in his biopic Sanju has been appreciated by the audience for his portrayal of the character. Many Bollywood stars including Ranbir's father Rishi Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt's sister Priya Dutt have praised Ranbir for his transformation.
But bhaijaan of Bollywood Salman Khan while promoted Race 3 shared slightly different views on the trailer of Sanju. He said that Dutt should have played himself in the last few scenes as he would have done justice to the film.
In a recent media interaction, Ranbir was asked about the same and he had a solid comeback saying if an actor would have played himself in his own biopic, the effect of the character would be destroyed. He said; "It has never happened that a person played himself in his own biopic. This destroys the effect of a character. I knew that I will be compared to Sanjay Dutt and that is why I have tried my best to do justice to his role.”
Sanjay Dutt's circuit from Munna Bhai MBBS, Arshad Warsi also said that Ranbir cannot be the original Dutt. Ranbir indirectly replied to him saying; "Whether people see me in 40-year old Sanjay Dutt's avatar or 20-year old, they should feel that they are watching an artist who is playing Sanjay Dutt. It is correct that I cannot become a second Sanjay Dutt."
Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sanju is slated to release on June 29. The film also stars Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Jim Sarbh, Manisha Koirala, Paresh Rawa, Dia Mirza, Boman Irani in key roles.
