Historical bio-pic drama Hindi movie 'Emergency' (UA) co-produced by Zee Studios, Manikarnika Films, and Renu Pitti is a compelling political thriller drama that revisits one of the most sensitive and controversial chapters in Indian history: Which is the state-of-nationwide Emergency declared by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975. Spanning the turbulent 21-month period of the Emergency and its aftermath, the film delves into the political and personal turmoil of the bygone period--- offering a mix of engaging historical events and candid cinematic dramatization.

Written and directed by super-talented star-actress ( and elected M.P)  Kangana Ranaut, the story is engaging and multi-layered, attempting to encapsulate an era filled with political intrigue, ambitious manipulation, and power-struggles. While the narrative is gripping, it often struggles with pacing and depth, trying to cover a little too much during its limited screen-runtime. Overall, the result is a well-made film ('Emergency')  that occasionally feels fragmented and even has certain freak cinematic- liberty quirky scenes. The film may appear to some as a overlapping series of sensational situations or moments rather than a seamless narrative. Ritesh Shah’s screenplay is highly engaging but in parts. The movie also serves as an 'action-replay' realistic revelation for young (Gen Z)  and those below 50 years age, regarding the historical shock-value and jubilant events of the 1970s. The first half takes its slow yet steady time to build momentum. But the intensity picks up significantly during the declaration and unfolding of the Emergency. However, the climax doesn’t seem to fully capitalize on the formidable political build-up and could have been more impactful.

The crisp impactful dialogues, penned by Ritesh Shah and Tanvi Kesari Pasumarthy, are a standout feature. Besides emotional resonance they have patriotic and emotional resonance. Like for instance the clap-worthy dialogues-session between U S President Richard Nixon ( actor Alexander Scott Young) and Madame Indira Gandhi ( Kangana)  ( You may have weaponry, but Indian Army has courage" ). This is just before the destructive Indo-Pak war in 1971, the massive influx of  Refugees, and India's war-zone victory Which ultimately led to the formation of independent country Bangladesh. And even the inspiring dialogue where 'Indira' after losing badly in the elections says with dignified resilience, " Main sirf haari hooh, tooti nahin hoon'

In 'Emergency' 'Screen-Queen' Kangana Ranaut delivers a career-re-defining extraordinary top awards-worthy performance as Madame Indira Gandhi. She embodies the role with remarkable passion and finesse, replicating the former Prime Minister’s body language, facial expressions, and commanding presence. Her portrayal is both nuanced and powerful, making it almost impossible to imagine any other actress in the title-role.
