He was eager to work with new music directors like his nephew Anu Malik, but he was more keen to work with the new sensation in the world of Hindi film music, Bappi Lahiri.

He made his desire (Hasrat) known to Bappi and Bappi who always respected the veterans not only listened to some of the lyrics of Hasrat but even allowed him to write a song for a film called " Kundan' starring Dharmendra and Jaya Prada. Hasrat also wrote the lyrics for a video song tuned by Bappi for "Kundan'" and the first line of the song was ', "Meri Tujh Se Shikaayat Hai," sung by Sadhana Sargam. It was perhaps the last two songs written by Hasrat in 1993 and he died in September 1999.

Incidentally, Bappi's father Aperesh Lahiri had sung his only Hindi song which was written by Hasrat for a film called "Badshah " starring Pradip Kumar and released in 1954 (Bappi Lahiri Death Anniversary).
