He was eager to work with new music directors like his nephew Anu Malik, but he was more keen to work with the new sensation in the world of Hindi film music, Bappi Lahiri.

He made his desire (Hasrat) known to Bappi and Bappi who always respected the veterans not only listened to some of the lyrics of Hasrat but even allowed him to write a song for a film called " Kundan' starring Dharmendra and Jaya Prada.
