Veteran singer Usha Uthup expressed her happiness on receiving the Padma Bhushan award. Usha Uthup said, "I am very happy. I am overwhelmed with happiness. Tears are visible in my eyes, you all can see. For me, this is the biggest moment of my life to be recognized and appreciated by my country, and of course, what more can one ask for?”

Speaking on the importance of the award, Usha Uthup said, "I feel very good because if you are a classic singer or a classic dancer, or if you are classical in your art, it is natural to eventually get an award. But for people like us, we are ordinary people, so it is a big thing to be chosen for the Padma Award. Because I believe only in peace and brotherhood, and I believe that together, as a united force, we can do something for others. That's my only interest."
