Talented and powerful Bollywood actress Huma Qureshi is celebrating her 39th birthday today. Known for her bold performances, fearless attitude, and intense acting skills, Huma has carved a special place for herself in the film industry.
A Journey of Grit and Grace
Huma Qureshi, known for her fearless style, bold roles, and compelling performances, has established a unique space in Bollywood without any film industry lineage or big-name backing. Through her versatile roles, impactful dialogue delivery, and self-assured screen presence, she has won hearts across audiences and firmly rooted herself in both cinema and OTT platforms. Be it as Mohsina in Gangs of Wasseypur or Rani Bharti in Maharani, each of her characters has left a lasting impression. Today, she stands among the select few actresses who have earned a respected place in the industry purely on the strength of their talent and hard work.
Early Life & Family
Huma was born on 28 July 1986 in New Delhi into a Muslim family. Her father, Saleem Qureshi, owns the famous chain of restaurants called Saleem’s in Delhi, while her mother, Amena Qureshi, is a homemaker. Her brother, Saqib Saleem, is also an actor who has appeared in several films.
Ads with Shah Rukh and Aamir
Huma graduated in History from Delhi University. During college, she joined the Act 1 theatre group and worked with theatre director N.K. Sharma. In 2008, she moved to Mumbai and began working in advertisements. In the early days of her career, Huma starred in ads with Bollywood icons—Shah Rukh Khan for Nerolac Impression Eco Clean Paint, and Aamir Khan for Samsung Guru.
First Break from Anurag Kashyap
Impressed by her acting, filmmaker Anurag Kashyap cast her as Mohsina Khan in his 2012 film Gangs of Wasseypur. This role earned her Filmfare nominations for Best Female Debut and Best Supporting Actress. After the success of Wasseypur, Huma’s career took off. She played a charming Punjabi girl Harman opposite Kunal Kapoor in Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana. She went on to appear in notable films like Ek Thi Daayan, Dedh Ishqiya, Badlapur, Double XL, Tarla, and Jolly LLB 2.
She also made a strong mark on OTT platforms with web series like Maharani, Leila, and Mithya: The Darker Chapter. Maharani truly established her as the queen of digital drama.
Beyond Bollywood
Huma didn’t restrict herself to Bollywood. She has acted in the Marathi film Highway, the Tamil film Kaala, and even the Hollywood project Army of the Dead. So far, she has received three Filmfare nominations and won one Filmfare OTT Award.
The Writer Within
Apart from acting, Huma is also passionate about writing. In 2023, she launched her debut book titled Zeba: An Accidental Superhero, which was well-received at various literary festivals.
Upcoming Projects
Huma was recently seen in Rajkummar Rao’s film Malik. Currently, she is busy shooting for the fourth season of her hit web series Maharani. She even shared a behind-the-scenes photo on her social media, where she’s seen walking with a crew member in a black outfit. The caption read: “Team Maharani is back. Captured by my producer ma’am Dimple Kharbanda. Thank you to my lovely audience for all the love.” Speculations suggest that Maharani Season 4 may release by the end of 2025. Besides this, she will also be seen in films like Jolly LLB 3, Bayaan, and Pooja Meri Jaan.
An Inspiration for Aspiring Actors
Today, Huma Qureshi is not just a successful actress but an inspiration for all those young women who dream of making it big in Bollywood without a film surname. Her journey proves that with determination and hard work, no goal is out of reach.
The Mayapuri family extends heartfelt birthday wishes to Huma Qureshi and wishes her endless success in the years to come!
