Masaan premiered at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and won two prestigious awards — the FIPRESCI Prize and the Promising Future Prize. Its sensitivity, depth, and realism were widely applauded on the international stage.

The Story

Set in Varanasi, Masaan tells two parallel stories of young individuals navigating social constraints and personal grief. On one side, there's Deepak (played by Vicky Kaushal), a boy from a dom family who finds love amidst funeral pyres. On the other hand, there's Devi (Richa Chadha), who is desperate to free herself from her past. Their stories eventually converge in a powerful, emotional climax.

Winning Hearts, One Line at a Time

The film’s poetry-like songs and memorable dialogues struck a chord with the audience. Lines like:
"Tu kisi rail si guzarti hai, main kisi pul sa thar-tharata hoon," "Saala yeh dukh kyu khatam nahi hota be?"
"Jo kheer nahi khaya, usne manushya yoni ka poorn fayda nahi uthaya,” And "Aap akele rehte hain? Nahin, main pitaji ke saath rehta hoon… pitaji akele rehte hain," have all become iconic.

A Decade Later, Still Impactful

Even after ten years, Masaan resonates as strongly as ever — quiet, but powerful. The film proves that simplicity has strength, and the true purpose of cinema is to make the audience think and feel deeply. The world created by Vicky Kaushal, Shweta Tripathi, and the entire Masaan team continues to be as relevant, moving, and alive as it was a decade ago.

To sum it up — Masaan isn’t just a film. It’s a feeling — one that touches your soul a little deeper with every watch.
