In a proud and emotional moment as a celebration of Indian culture and cinema, Indian cinema legend Aamir Khan will hoist the Indian national flag at the Indian Film Festival Melbourne (IFFM) 2025 this August. The special ceremony will be part of the festival's annual Independence Day celebrations, which honour the spirit of India and its global cultural influence.
IFFM: World’s Biggest Indian Film Fest Outside India
Supported by the Government of Victoria, IFFM is the largest Indian film festival held outside India. The festival brings diverse and powerful Indian stories to the world every year and remains a symbol of inclusivity and cinematic excellence.
The flag hoisting ceremony at IFFM every year holds emotional significance for the Indian diaspora and global audiences. This time, the hoisting of the tricolour by an esteemed artist like Aamir Khan reflects the festival's growing international recognition.
Mitu Bhowmick Leng, Festival Director, said, “The flag hoisting ceremony at IFFM is not just a ceremonial tradition but a deeply emotional and connecting experience. It fills us with pride to see the tricolour fluttering on foreign soil and stand with artists, filmmakers, and the Indian and Australian community. It is a great honour to have Aamir Khan, whose voice, vision, and cinema have influenced generations of film lovers not only in India but across the world, lead this moment. His presence reflects the strength and honesty of Indian stories and symbolises IFFM’s values of equality and unity in diversity. We are excited to welcome all audiences to witness this inspiring moment.”
IFFM 2025 will present a strong lineup of films, panels, and events that will further its commitment to promoting Indian voices and connecting cultures through the power of cinema. This year, the festival will screen over 75 films in 31 languages.
