‘Ageless’ Anupam Kher --Jiyo hazaaron saal ! Super-actor bemisaal ! by Chaitanya Padukone

Today March 7th, 2025, it’s versatile super-actor and ‘acting-guru’ ‘Padma Bhushan National Film Awards winning Anupam Kher’s 70th Birthday. We wish him a long, healthy, creative, active cheerful life!

Although it’s his 70th Bday, fitness icon Anupam ( NSD-Alumnus) has the zestful stamina and enthusiasm of a 17-year-old and considers himself “like a newcomer”  even after acting in over 540 films. Who hates complacency and resting on past glory and always wants to give his better-than-the-best shot,  In whatever he shots and whatever he does.   Being an eminent film journalist, I have known witty, articulate Anupam-jee right from his ‘Saaransh’ ( 1984) days.  It’s very heartening that whenever he notices me sitting at any press conference, modest Anupam with his ‘apnapan’ mostly makes it a point, to call me by my full name and acknowledge my presence.  Even at the recent ‘Tumko Meri Kasam’ news-media event, Kher-saab did that.

 Although  Anupam was possibly only 28 years of age while shooting for that classic movie directed by Mahesh Bhatt, he dared to convincingly play an elderly grey-haired senior citizen in dire distress. Who bravely fights against the social system and red-tapism bureaucracy to get justice.

In real life too, ‘workaholic’ Anupam-jee has been an outspoken star-actor who has always fought for justice and he has never had ego-issues regarding roles and work. “ Everyday in the morning I  wish to proceed for work –for shooting, doesn’t matter which film. No scope at all for retirement.  See how  Hollywood star hero Clint Eastwood at the age of 94 keeps himself busy working, or even our own Amitabh Bachchan-Saab at 82 years is still busy shooting for movies, ad-films or as the KBC TV quiz-show host,” says Anupam.

Multi-tasking Anupam as an ‘acting Guru’ since 2005 runs this acting academy ‘ ‘Actor Prepares ‘ (with alumni like Deepika Padukone, Hrithik Roshan )  and also hosted this popular Colors TV  candid chat show titled  ‘Kuchh Bhi Ho Sakta Hai’  with popular top celebs. But Kher-saab also strongly believes in the realistic unpredictable nature of destiny’s twists and turns, ups and downs! Just like the 'title' of his amazing show.
