Ayushmann Khurrana explains the boon and bane of the internet
Today, on Safe Internet Day, Ayushmann highlights the importance of having open conversations regularly and training children about careful use of the internet. He recognizes the risks children face in the digital sphere and advocates for safe online experiences for them. He emphasizes the dual nature of the Internet, which provides opportunities for growth and engagement as well as potential harm to children.
Ayushmann Khurrana shared his thoughts on safe internet day
Ayushmann Khurrana says, “The Internet is a powerful tool, and we need to ensure that children can make the best use of it. They have the opportunity to learn about the world, discover new hobbies, advance their skills, access job opportunities, and more. Explore and access the Internet and harness its potential safely and securely."
He further added, “The rise of smartphones and social media has led to an increase in online trolling, which often adversely impacts children's mental health and self-esteem. We must educate our children on ways to maintain online hygiene. Educate and sensitize. Not only stay safe from trolling and bullying, but also avoid online trolls/bullies. It is extremely important to ensure that our children are empowered enough to approach an adult they trust.
Lastly, he says, “Children are using the internet from a very early stage in their lives. From education to friendship to entertainment, every aspect of their lives has an online component. As adults, it is our responsibility to build trust with our children—trust is a two-way street in which children trust us so much that they turn to us when they need support, and when our children turn to us, we trust them. We must keep this in mind as we prepare to advise our children if they ever face the pitfalls of the online world. However in the long run, as elders/parents we have to work on these issues with patience, confidence, and intention. If necessary, we should seek professional help for children, without fear of stigma."
Ayushmann Khurrana also talked about cyber-crime and helpline
Ayushmann emphasizes that children should be made aware that anyone can report on the social media platform where this trolling has taken place; the cyber-crime helpline 1903 or the cyber-crime website where one can also report anonymously.
