From Struggle to Superstar: Dharmendra’s Story

Born on 8 December 1935 in Sahnewal village of Ludhiana district, Punjab, Dharmendra’s real name is Dharam Singh Deol. Raised in a simple Sikh-Jat household, he developed a passion for films early on, inspired by the movies of legendary actor Dilip Kumar.

Leaving behind the simplicity of Punjab to enter Mumbai’s glamorous film world was anything but easy. He faced countless challenges—endless auditions, rejections, and financial struggles. But Dharmendra never gave up. His debut film ‘Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere’ (1960) earned him just ₹51, yet marked the beginning of a journey that would go on to transform Bollywood forever.
