Donald Trump Takes a Swipe at George and Amal Clooney, Labels Them “Bad Political Forecasters”

Recently, US President Donald Trump criticized the decision to grant French citizenship to actor George Clooney. The criticism intensified after a French government official described the move as a “double standard.”

According to an official decree, 64-year-old George Clooney, his wife Amal Clooney, and their two children have been granted French citizenship. Trump, whose administration has supported anti-immigration parties in Europe, said that Paris is free to keep the “Ocean’s Eleven” star. George Clooney has long been a supporter and fundraiser for the Democratic Party and a vocal critic of President Trump.

What Trump Said About Clooney

In a post on his social media platform, Trump wrote, “Good news! George and Amal Clooney, two of the worst political prognosticators of all time, have officially become citizens of France—which, sadly, is facing a major crime problem due to its horrendous handling of immigration, just like during the time of Sleepy Joe Biden.”

Referring to Clooney’s political views, Trump further said, “Remember when Clooney dropped Joe after the now-discredited debate, during a fundraiser, and then backed another ‘brilliant’ candidate, Kamala (K!), who is now competing with some of the worst governors in the country—including Tim Walz and Gavin Newsom—to see who can lead the Democrats to their next defeat.”

Trump also claimed that Clooney received more attention for his political comments than for his film career, stating that the actor had “very few, and not very good, movies” and that he was “not a movie star at all.”

What Is the Matter?

The controversy began after the French government recently granted citizenship to George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin Clooney. On Wednesday, the French government said the couple was awarded citizenship because they “contribute, through their distinguished work, to France’s international influence and cultural outreach.”

Earlier, a junior French minister had questioned Clooney’s naturalization. According to reports, the naturalization of George and Amal Clooney and their twin children, Ella and Alexander, was announced last week in the Journal Officiel, where official French government decrees are published.

Additionally, junior Interior Ministry minister Marie-Pierre Vedrenne said that some French citizens may feel the couple received special treatment. George Clooney had previously admitted that he speaks only what he described as “very, very bad” French.

For non-French residents living in France, there are several legal pathways to obtain citizenship. However, it is currently unclear whether George Clooney has retained his American citizenship.
