These days, one dialogue is echoing everywhere — " Ek chutki sindoor ki keemat tum kya jaano, Ramesh Babu!" This dialogue is not only one of Bollywood’s most iconic lines, but it has now also become a symbol of patriotism. The reason is the recent military operation by the Indian Army, conducted on May 7, which was named ‘Operation Sindoor’.
A Bollywood Dialogue Comes Alive Again
"Ek chutki sindoor ki keemat tum kya jaano, Ramesh Babu..." — This famous dialogue is from the 2007 film Om Shanti Om, directed by Farah Khan. It was delivered in two different scenes in the film — first by veteran actress Kirron Kher, and later in the second half by Deepika Padukone.
The full dialogue goes:
"Ek chutki sindoor ki keemat tum kya jaano Ramesh Babu! Ishwar ka aashirvaad hota hai ek chutki sindoor, suhagan ke sar ka taaj hota hai ek chutki sindoor, har aurat ka khwaab hota hai ek chutki sindoor!"
(What do you know about the worth of a pinch of vermillion, Ramesh Babu! A pinch of vermillion is God's blessing, it is the crown of a married woman, it is the dream of every woman!)”
This dialogue was written by Mayur Puri, a well-known Bollywood screenwriter and lyricist. Even today, the line remains etched in the hearts of audiences, and now with ‘Operation Sindoor’, it has found a renewed emotional connection among people.
The Dialogue from Om Shanti Om
Talking about the dialogue, it belongs to Om Shanti Om, a romantic thriller based on reincarnation, released in 2007. The film starred Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in lead roles, with Arjun Rampal playing the antagonist. Shreyas Talpade and Kirron Kher played supporting characters. The film was produced by Gauri Khan under the banner of Red Chillies Entertainment.
"Ek chutki sindoor ki keemat” (A pinch of vermillion)" is no longer just a line from a film — it has become a symbol of Indian tradition, feminine strength, and now, national defense. Operation Sindoor has proven that a single word can carry immense power — whether spoken as a cinematic dialogue or while defending the nation on the battlefield.
