After 144 years, the Mahakumbh 2025 started at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on January 13, 2025, and concluded on February 26, coinciding with Maha Shivaratri. Mahakumbh 2025 became the world's largest religious gathering. World Records Set in the Mahakumbh
Several world records were created during Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj. The first Guinness World Record was set for the cleaning of the Ganga. A total of 329 locations in the Ganga river were cleaned simultaneously, setting a world record. The second world record was for a hand-painting event, where 10,102 people painted together, surpassing the previous record of 7,660 people. Additionally, 19,000 people participated in a cleaning drive using brooms, which also became a Guinness World Record. The previous record was for 10,000 people.
Railway and Transport's Role
Over 16,000 special trains were run to accommodate more than 5 crore devotees. Additionally, 2,800 flights brought in 4.5 lakh devotees. Bus bookings saw a 70-fold increase during the event.
Security Arrangements During the Mahakumbh
Over 70,000 security personnel were deployed during the Mahakumbh. This included more than 37,000 police officers, 14,000 home guards, and CRPF personnel.

The Mahakumbh Mela area is 166 times larger than the world’s largest stadium. The Mela zone stretched across 4,000 hectares, with over 4 lakh tents and 1.5 lakh toilets set up.
Expenses
The government’s budget for the event was nearly ₹7,500 crore, and infrastructure development costs were similar, bringing the total expenses to around ₹15,000 crore.
Economic Benefits to Uttar Pradesh
The Mahakumbh contributed ₹3 lakh crore in business, benefiting multiple sectors. This will lead to a 1% growth in Uttar Pradesh’s GDP. The event also created 12 lakh temporary jobs. The sale of flowers and religious items earned ₹2,000 crore, while food and hospitality sectors also saw billions in revenue. Overall, the event has significantly boosted Uttar Pradesh’s economy.
Prime Minister’s Statement

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s Speech
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for the successful organization of the Mahakumbh 2025. He described the event as a grand celebration of unity, equality, and harmony. "The Mahakumbh 2025 has become a symbol of humanity, and it conveys the message that the entire world is one," he said.
Yogi's Big Announcements
Following the successful completion of Mahakumbh, Yogi Adityanath made three major announcements:
Sanitation workers involved in the Mahakumbh will receive a ₹10,000 bonus.
Sanitation workers whose salary was between ₹8,000-₹11,000 will have their pay increased to ₹16,000 starting in April. They will also be insured for ₹5 lakh.
Boatmen will be registered and will also receive a ₹5 lakh insurance. Additionally, financial aid will be provided to poor boatmen to purchase boats.
Furthermore, 75,000 security personnel who worked during the Mahakumbh will receive a week off, a special ₹10,000 bonus, and be awarded the Mahakumbh Service Medal.
