“Musical harmony is my 'life-line'--I believe in fit-hai-toh-hit-hai,” says genius legendary composer Pyarelal-jee, who turned 84 years ‘young’ ! By Chaitanya Padukone

'Aap Jiyo Hazaaron Saal--Happy B'day To You'- PYARE-Bhai" was sung in zestful chorus by the select Guests ( including me) who were present last night ( September 3rd ) at the informal 'milan-dosti-sargam' mehfil evening Bday party of mahaan sangeetkaar ‘Padma Bhushan’ Pyarelal Sharma (of legendary duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal). Their well-furnished apartment living room was studded with dozens of beautiful floral bouquets sent by large number of his well-wishers. There was warm welcome hospitality by Pyarelal-ji’s music-savvy courteous wife Sunila-jee and his dynamic son Gautam Sharma. We were all celebrating the 84th B'Day of mahaan Bollywood composer-arranger-conductor Pyarelal Ramprasad Sharma ( of legendary Laxmikant Pyarelal musical duo ) at his Bandra residence with the traditional cake-cutting (minus the candles).

Known for his humility, modesty and meticulous discipline, the genius composer and piano and violin maestro (always clad in spotless white kurta) PYARE-Bhai ( as we fondly call him) seemed emotionally overjoyed with sentiments.  Holding my hand in a tight-clasp-grip Pyare-bhai said. “With Maa Saraswati Devi’s blessings and Lord Sai Baba’s blessings my health is fit and fine. Fit hai toh hit hai. ! Harmony and music is my life-line,” said 'global-fame' Pyare-bhai who has the stamina of a ‘48’ year old when he stands for long hours on stage to conduct the live orchestra.

The birthday became more exciting when a group of his ardent die-hard gyaani fans including budding classical singer Krutika Shrivastava and eminent classical singer Raman Rajput fondly recalled some of  L-P's hit songs and even did a few fun-rehearsals with Pyare-bhai also joining in the vocal singing.  During the day various music-centric well-wisher guests including composer Salim Merchant ( of Salim-Sulaiman fame) dropped in to wish respected Pyare-bhai. The evening guests who stayed till the end of the party, also included eminent composer-arranger-violin maestro Amar Haldipur ( of movie ‘Shahenshah’ fame) with talented singer-performer son Sidharth Haldipur ( ‘Band of Boys’ fame)! While leaving and saying bye, I sing his composed song  ‘Achha toh hum chalte hain and in friendly tone Pyare-bhai responds with ‘phir kab miloge’,!
