When I received the sad news of Anand Sagar's passing away this morning, my heart felt heavy with grief. The Sagar family hadn't yet recovered from the loss of their beloved Prem Sagar, one of the pillars of Sagar world and also one of the son of Legendary film and television director-producer Doctor Ramanand Sagar, and now, passing away of yet one more piller of Sagar family, Anand Sagar was another blow to the world of Sagar legacy. To be honest, I was at a loss of words for a few moments.
Anand Sagar was not keeping well for the last fifteen years. This morning, he breathed his last. According to his family members, he passed away peacefully.

Anand Ramanand Sagar Was More Than a Legendary Son
He was not just the son of the legendary filmmaker Dr. Ramanand Sagar. Actually, he distinguished himself with his work. He began his film career in the 1970s. His hard work is clearly visible in films like 'Humrahi', 'Ram Bharose', 'Pyara Dushman', 'Armaan', 'Zulf Ke Saaye Saaye', 'Badal', the Gujarati film 'Moti Ghar Ni Laaj', 'Bhagat Singh', and the Telugu film 'Akali Poratam'. He was a director who understood the pulse of the audience. His stories were a gentle blend of emotion, entertainment and belonging.
The creative works and responsibilities were divided within the Sagar family. Someone handled production, someone directed. Anand ji often served as director or executive producer. He preferred working behind the scenes.
His contribution to the world of television was great too. He accocieted with his father on the 1987 serial "Ramayan." Later, he directed several serials like "Alif Laila," "Jai Ganga Maiya," "Basera," and "Jai Jai Jai Bajrang Bali."

In 2008–2009, he again took over the direction of "Ramayan." Like his brother Prem Sagar, he too was a man who upheld the Sagar tradition. For Anand JI work was worship.
For me, this sad news is not just the loss of a filmmaker. It is the loss of a part of my own past. When I lived in Andheri during my early days as a journalist, I would often visit the Sagar family at Natraj Studios in the due course of my writing job. The atmosphere there was very loving and welcoming. Anand ji was of a quiet nature, speaking little. I mostly spoke with his younger brother, Prem Sagar ji. But Anand ji's simplicity... I still remember that.
Today it feels as if that era, that studio, that time... is very quietly fading into memory.
Anand Sagar ji never pursued fame. But his work will always remain in people's hearts. Some shine on stage, others make history behind the scenes. He was one of them.
