National Award-winning Indian filmmaker Ram Kamal Mukherjee and his monumental work Binodiini: Ekti Natir Upakhyan emerged as extraordinary winners at the South Asian International Film Festival (SAIFF) in Florida. The film won three prestigious awards: Best Director, Best Actress, and Audience Choice Best Film.
Binodiini Dasi Biopic Wins Hearts at SAIFF Tampa
The Bengali biopic, centered around Bengal’s iconic theater figure Binodiini Dasi, mesmerized a packed audience at the NCG Theater in Tampa, where the tickets sold out in just ten minutes. The film was praised for its intense storytelling and the subtle recreation of an era gone by, garnering standing ovations and widespread acclaim from both the jury and the attendees at the festival.
Rukmini Maitra & Ram Kamal Mukherjee Win Top Honors
Famous Bengali actress Rukmini Maitra won the Best Actress award for her powerful portrayal of Binodiini Dasi, while Ram Kamal Mukherjee won the Best Director award, marking his first international recognition for this film. The Audience Choice Best Film award was given to producers Prateek Chakraborty (Promod Films) and Dev Akhouri (Dev Entertainment Ventures), acknowledging their visionary support for the project.
Bollywood actor and former Mr. India and Mr. International, Aryan Vaid, accepted the Best Director award on behalf of Mukherjee. He expressed his excitement, saying, "I am thrilled to see Ram Kamal's first Bengali film receiving such a prestigious recognition. Having known him since his Stardust magazine days and witnessing his National Award-winning success, this moment is well-deserved. I’m also glad to see my co-actor Rahul Bose in the film. Congratulations to Ram, Rukmini, and the entire team," Vaid said in a press statement.
Ram Kamal Mukherjee Celebrates SAIFF Win & Team’s Effort
In an official statement to the American media, Ram Kamal Mukherjee expressed heartfelt gratitude: "Winning the Best Director award at the South Asian International Film Festival in Florida is incredibly special. It’s highly satisfying to see Rukmini Maitra’s hard work being acknowledged on the international stage. I am also excited for my producers, Prateek and Dev, whose faith and investment made this challenging project a reality."
Produced by Prateek Chakraborty (Promod Films) and Dev Akhouri (Dev Entertainment Ventures) in collaboration with Assorted Motion Pictures, Binodiini: Ekati Natir Upakhyan premiered in India on January 23, 2025, and had its U.S. debut with the screening at the festival.
