Remember Captain Abrar from Salman Khan’s Tiger franchise (Ek Tha Tiger, Tiger Zinda Hai, and the upcoming Tiger 3)? The one who sent Pakistani agent Katrina Kaif after Indian agent Salman Khan? Well, he’s now re-emerging in a brand-new avatar — as an underworld don in the upcoming film “Bombay”, presenting a completely new identity on screen. The actor is none other than Punjabi film superstar Gavie Chahal.
Audiences know Gavie Chahal in various roles on screen. He has played the lead in 17 Punjabi films. Hailing from Mansa, Punjab, the young Navdeep Singh Chahal began his career with music albums and modeling, and people started calling him ‘Gavie’ Chahal. Interestingly, Gavie was the hero of singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh’s first music video. “I worked a lot in that field,” he says. “Then I moved on to TV serials and films.”
Gavie gained major recognition in Salman Khan’s Tiger 3, where, as in the previous two films of the franchise, he played Captain Abrar. Besides this, he was the hero of the Punjabi film Sangrand, and now he stars in the Hindi film “Bombay”, which is set for release.
When asked about his role as an underworld don in Bombay, which is also the lead role in the film, he shares:
“It’s a brilliantly made film. After the 1993 Bombay blasts, all the major underworld dons were either killed or fled the country. Only one remained — Ulhas Mhatre, who was the undisputed king of Mumbai (then still called Bombay).
He had three girlfriends — Deepshikha, Vandana Lalwani, and Pari Mirza.
Then, his heart changes — a transformation.
It’s the kind of tough male character who moves forward with both positive and negative shades.
Writer-director Sanjay Niranjan has done a fantastic job.”
Gavie Chahal, who began his TV journey with a lead role in Mohe Rang De, was also the first winner of reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi (on Colors channel). He enjoys staying connected to all forms of cinema. He’s played title roles in MX Player web series and acted in Chicken Biryani 1 and 2.
What’s his goal?
“For me, being an actor comes first, no matter the platform I’m working on. I try to pour life into every role I play.
A role like the one in Bombay is something no actor would want to miss.
The entire film revolves around my character.
I’ve done Torbaaz with Sanjay Dutt, and the Tiger films with Salman Bhai. Everyone has appreciated my work.
Similarly, in Bombay, I’m in the lead. I’ve worked with amazing people, and for me, Bombay is one of those milestone films.”
