Kareena Vijay Waves Summit 2025: Cinema Talk
On the second day of the Waves Summit 2025 (May 2), a session was held on the theme of cinema as soft power. Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan and South Indian star Vijay Deverakonda took part in this conversation, moderated by filmmaker Karan Johar. During this session, both artists openly shared their thoughts on the cultural significance of Indian cinema.
During the conversation, Kareena Kapoor shared a personal and memorable incident. She revealed that during a recent trip to London (in 2023), a foreign fan sang the iconic song "Mera Joota Hai Japani" from her grandfather Raj Kapoor's film Shree 420 – and that too, in perfect Hindi! Kareena called the moment a proud and emotional experience. In her words: “Today, people across the world are watching our films – and in Hindi! That was a proud moment for me because he sang it in our language.”
She further shared that the person – a taxi driver – told her that he had watched Raj Kapoor's films and couldn’t believe that she was sitting in his car. Kareena said that as an Asian, he made her realize how far-reaching the influence of Indian cinema is. "My grandfather’s films are quite old," she said. "Earlier, movies used to be dubbed in different languages, but now people are actually enjoying Hindi films as they are. That makes me proud."
On the Work Front
Kareena Kapoor Khan was last seen in Singham Again. As for her upcoming projects, she will soon appear in The Buckingham Murders, The Crew, Daayra, and Veere Di Wedding 2.
