Musician Roshan is a name that needs no introduction. There are dozens of films like Anhoni, Barsaat Ki Raat, Taj Mahal, Chitralekha, Anokhi Raat, etc. in which Roshan's music has become very popular. Musician Roshan had two sons, Rakesh and Rajesh. When his elder son Rakesh was born on 6 September 1949, Roshan's financial condition was not very good. However after Rakesh was born, his condition gradually started improving. Some films started doing well.

Rakesh Roshan’s Journey: From Grief to a Career in Acting

When Rakesh Roshan was in Pune College, he got the news that his father had passed away. This was a very difficult time for Rakesh Roshan. He had the responsibility of his younger brother and also had big dreams in his eyes. His first decision was to quit his studies and started working as the fourth assistant of filmmaker HS Rawail. Time passed and in a few months, Rakesh Roshan rose from the fourth rank to the chief assistant. However, he was not very happy with his job. One day Rajendra Kumar, famous as Jubilee Kumar, noticed something about Rakesh Roshan and asked him, “Tell me the truth, do you want to do direction or acting? Because your face and expressions are exactly like an actor.”

Rakesh Roshan could not stop himself from being asked such a direct question and said that he really wanted to act but he was not able to find a way.

Then Rajendra Kumar got him a supporting role with Balraj Sahni in the film 'Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani'. From here Rakesh Roshan's supporting roles started. After this, Rakesh Roshan kept appearing as a supporting cast in films like Man Mandir, Buniyaad, Trimurti, Zakhmi, Priyatama etc. and was also liked by the audience but Rakesh himself was not happy with his supporting actor image. Rakesh Roshan
also played lead roles in films like Aankhon-Aankhon Mein and Aankh Micholi but things did not work out.

Rakesh Roshan was praised for his performance in the film Angan Ki Kali (1979), but the film did not do well, so Rakesh Roshan entered film production. He felt that no one has more influence than the producer in films, so here he could get a better opportunity to do something according to his wish.

In 1980, his first produced film 'Aap Ke Deewane' was released. His friend Rishi Kapoor was also in this film. But this film flopped at the box office. After this, Rakesh Roshan produced a film after two years in 1982 - Kamchor. This film did not flop and also managed to earn a decent amount of money but Rakesh Roshan was not satisfied with his acting skills. In 1987, he tried his hand at direction for the first time with the film Khudgarz. He was married by then. Before the release of the film, he said to his wife Pinky, "If this film does not work, then there will be a big mess."

But it is said that when the intentions are strong and the thoughts are eager to touch the heights, then for how long can fate trouble you. The same happened with Rakesh Roshan. Khudgarz became a big hit and Rakesh Roshan was known for the first time as a great director, apart from his image as an actor and producer. After this, he made a women-centric film with his friend 'Rekha', which was a wonder in that era. The name of the film was 'Khoon Bhari Maang' and Rakesh Roshan himself played an important role in it.

This film became a blockbuster on the silver screen and the music of Rakesh Roshan's brother Rakesh Roshan in his films also became a super duper hit. Then Rakesh Roshan made blockbuster films one after another like Kala Bazaar, Kishan Kanhaiya, King Uncle, Karan Arjun, etc. and emerged as a star filmmaker in the 90s. He also received the Filmfare Award for Best Action and Editing for the film Karan Arjun.

When Rakesh Roshan, famous for making movies with only 'K', brought Shahrukh Khan back for the movie 'Koyla', everyone's expectations from this movie also increased a lot. But unlike other movies, Koyla could not do any wonders.

After this, the responsibility of launching his son Hrithik fell on Rakesh Roshan. Rakesh wrote the script of a romantic revenge film with great care and added a double role to it and released it in the year 2000. This film was 'Kaho Naa, Pyar Hai'

This was the first film for both Amisha Patel and Hrithik Roshan and both of them made the audience crazy with their first film. The film became a super-duper hit and from here onwards Rakesh Roshan started making films only for his son Hrithik.

After Kaho Naa Pyar Hai, Rakesh Roshan also cast his son Hrithik in the remake of the Hollywood science fiction film E.T. 'Koi Mil Gaya' and from here the foundation of a superhero film was laid for the first time in Bollywood.

In Koi Mil Gaya, as per his promise, Rakesh Roshan gave an important role to his friend Rekha. For this film, she was awarded not only the Filmfare Award but also the National Award.

Thanks to Rakesh Roshan, Hrithik Roshan started his career from such a height that from then till today his graph kept on rising, there was no decrease in it. Whatever movie he made with his son like Krrish, Krrish 2, Kaabil etc., they were super hits.

But in 2018, Rakesh Roshan's doctors told him that he was suffering from the first stage of throat cancer. He took this news as if it was a normal thing and was confident that he could defeat cancer. This is what happened.

Rakesh Roshan immediately gave up smoking but when it came to alcohol he said, "I don't sleep without having two pegs in the evening. It makes me feel mentally fit. And to win against cancer, this is what is required, to remain mentally strong." His latest PET scan report showed that he is now completely fine.

He had once advised his 45-year-old friend Rishi Kapoor to not be careless about his health until he was completely healthy, but he did not listen.

On the other hand, unlike Rishi, Rakesh Roshan completely changed his routine. He started exercising daily, started waking up early in the morning. He gave up all the work and focused only on his health and now, after recovering completely, he is preparing to make Krishna 4 with Hrithik Roshan.

Happy birthday to the great filmmaker Rakesh Roshan who turned 74 today. We hope he stays healthy and continues to contribute to cinema.
