India’s longest-running and most popular sitcom, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, recently completed 17 successful years. On this historic occasion, the show’s creator, Asit Kumar Modi, had an exclusive conversation with the media, where he shared his experiences, struggles, emotions, and future plans. Let’s find out what he had to say…
“I didn’t even realize how 17 years flew by”
Speaking about the 17-year journey of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, Asit Modi said, “I’m feeling really good. I’m enjoying this moment a lot. I can’t even understand how these 17 years have passed. Now we’re entering our 18th year, and we’ll bring new stories. We’ll travel across the country with our team. Today is a very happy day.”
Overcoming the Challenges
Remaining consistently successful for 17 years is no easy feat. Talking about the challenges faced, Asit shared, “Sometimes it’s difficult to come up with new storylines. Our team of writers constantly brainstorms about what our audience would like to see. I’ve kept the team like a family. I don’t behave like a boss—I’m part of the team. Our only goal is to bring a smile to our viewers’ faces.”
The show not only holds the record for its longevity but also stands out because it never took a leap. “There are shows that have run for more episodes than us, but they’ve taken leaps, changed artists and storylines. Our core team has largely remained the same—that’s our real strength,” he said.
He added, “These aren’t just 17 years; it’s a story of nearly 5,000 days filled with hard work, laughter, and emotions. Every day brings something new—food, fun, shooting, laughter—and so many unforgettable memories.”
Old Faces, New Faces—All a Part of the Journey
Talking about the cast changes over the years, Asit Modi said, “I’m grateful to the original cast members. They gave this show its identity. It’s not easy to keep everyone together for 17 years. I’ve never replaced anyone forcefully. I always try to work with everyone as a team. Yes, it’s a challenge, but even the new actors work hard, and the audience continues to love the stories.”
Asit Doesn’t Pay Heed to Social Media Rumors
When asked about rumors regarding lead actor Dilip Joshi (Jethalal) leaving the show, Asit responded calmly: “I don’t spend much time on social media. My only focus is on improving every episode. Successful people always get trolled—it’s part of the game. I don’t pay attention to these things.”
“India Will Never Forget Daya and Jetha”
While speaking about the iconic duo, he said, “Daya and Jethalal have entertained millions across India. They’re an incredibly popular pair and will never be forgotten.”
The Mission Continues: Laughter for All
Wrapping up the conversation, Asit Modi said, “Our goal is simple—bring smiles to our audience through every episode. When a team stands united, even the impossible becomes possible. We want to bring stories from every corner of India into Gokuldham. As long as we have the love of the audience, we’ll continue to create magic in our 18th year too.”
In these 17 joyful years, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah hasn’t just been about comedy—it has brought people together. As the show steps into its 18th year, there’s hope that the journey ahead will be even more colorful, engaging, and inspiring—because laughter never gets old.
