The buzz around the film Bombay, set to release on 30th May 2025, is heating up. Produced by Firdos Shaikh, the film is a gripping story centered around underworld gangsters and features renowned actress Deepshikha Nagpal in a pivotal role. The film’s promos are being widely discussed. Known for her distinctive performances in both film and television, Deepshikha plays the leading lady in this film. Her character is connected to the Mumbai underworld and terrorism. When I spoke with her about the film, she seemed quite content with her role.
"What made you say yes to a film based on the underworld like Bombay?"
“The story of the film. Honestly, the moment I heard the story, I myself gave an immediate yes. The film is set in the aftermath of the 1993 Bombay blasts. My character leaves behind a message for social reflection. I won’t reveal the story as it’s a crime-world-based thriller, but when Sanjay Niranjan ji narrated it to me, I just couldn’t say no. I really liked the role. The hero opposite me is Gavie Chahal, a star from Punjabi films.”
"As far as my image on television is concerned, an artist creates a new image with every role they play. My role as Satyavati in the Hotstar series Na Umar Ki Seema Ho gave me a positive image, and now doing Bombay might give me an underworld image, right? I’m known for portraying all kinds of characters with ease. My portrayal of ‘Satyavati’ has been very well received by the audience. That role has given me a very simple and grounded image, and honestly, I’m excited about it. Bombay is a feature film in which I am the leading lady. It will give me yet another image—something we all can already anticipate."
Let us tell you — Deepshikha began her career doing glamorous roles. She has worked across advertising, TV serials, films, music albums, item numbers, and regional cinema, always staying active and in the limelight. Her diverse on-screen appearances form a long list.
She got major recognition from the film Koyla. Other films include Gangster, Betaaj Badshah, Karan Arjun, Barsaat Ki Raat, Sirf Tum, Jaanam Samjha Karo, Dillagi, Rishtey, Corporate, Partner, One Day Justice, etc.
In television, she’s been part of shows like Kanoon, Dastaan-e-Hatim, Shaktimaan, Suraag, Sonpari, Ramayan, Ssshhh… Koi Hai, Kitty Party, Shararat, CID, Kashmakash Zindagi Ki, Nach Baliye 5, Bigg Boss 8, and more. Her recent shows Na Umar Ki Seema Ho and Palkon Ki Chhaon Mein have added to her popularity.
“I believe in doing all kinds of roles,” she says. “My upcoming film Bombay has a completely different character. I play a mother who’s connected to an underworld don. But when that same don tries to harm my daughter, I turn fierce. Director Sanjay Niranjan has created a powerful sequence for this scene.” Deepshikha says she wants to do roles that leave a message for society. She is also the writer, producer, director, and actress of the film Yeh Dooriyan, and for single-handedly taking credit in all those roles, her name has been recorded in the Limca Book of Records.
What else would you like to do now? Another film like Bombay?
“I don’t plan things. They just happen.”
