Karan Mehra Takes the Mic: Actor Makes His Singing Debut

Karan Mehra, known for his role as Kartik in the popular Star Plus show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, is venturing into singing, stepping away from his acting career. Although the 41-year-old actor has appeared in several songs before, he has always featured as an actor. In his latest song, however, Karan is both singing and acting. The song "Surma" marks his debut as a singer. Let’s explore what’s special about this song and how Karan’s journey into singing has unfolded in this interview.

• Singing is a new chapter in your career. What would you like to say about this new venture and your journey?

Music has always been a part of my life. I have many friends in the industry who are singers and music directors, such as Meet Brothers, Shaan, and Sonu Nigam. I know them personally and have heard them sing many times. However, I never thought I would sing myself. I remember once I played a song for the Meet Brothers, and they couldn’t believe I had sung it. They liked my singing, and that gave me the confidence that I had done well. After that, I sang a Punjabi song, which marked the beginning of my singing journey. As for this song, we shot it in December, and now it is finally out for everyone to see.

• Music videos are trending, but audiences have become very selective. What would you say about your song in this context?

We kept the song short so that it wouldn’t feel too lengthy for the audience. However, the song’s visuals tell a complete story, whether it’s watching a girl from a car or chasing her. Working with everyone was a lot of fun. I knew Shweta beforehand but had never worked with her. I knew she would deliver great work. For the shoot, our team of four went to Dubai, filmed, explored, and then returned. One more thing I want to mention is that many people don’t even realize it’s my song. They just think it’s a new release. Nevertheless, the audience is giving a good response to my song.

• What are your upcoming projects?

I have just finished working on the serial 'Mehndi Wala Ghar,' and my new song "Saaf Pata Chalta Hai" has been released. Right now, I’m busy with interviews as people want to know about me as a singer. My birthday is also coming up soon, so I plan to enjoy a little.

• What would you like to say to your audience?
