Sayali Salunke, a popular TV actress known for her roles in shows like Spy Bahu, Pukar – Dil Se Dil Tak, Baatein Kuch Ankahi Si, and Bohot Pyaar Karte Hai, will soon be seen in the new show Veer Hanuman, where she plays the role of Anjana Mata. In a recent interview with Shilpa Patil from Maya Puri, Sayali discussed her character, working with Swastik Productions, her attire, and her co-stars. Here's what she had to say:
This time, viewers will see a different side of you on TV. What would you like to say about that?
Actually, I had gone to give a mock audition for another show by Swastik Productions, but the makers asked me to give the mock for Veer Hanuman as well. I did it, and I don’t know how they trusted me with such a big role because it's a very responsible one. I’m very thankful to them for that. I had no issues with the show, but I was nervous about doing justice to the role of Anjana Mata. However, the makers really liked my mock audition, and that’s how I got the role.
Swastik Productions has created many mythological shows, like Mahabharat, Radha Krishna, Ramayan, and Shiv Shakti. Now you’re working with them. How has your experience been of joining their family?
People from the industry had told me that Swastik Productions is a great production house. Now that I’ve joined them, I can see why their shows are so successful. I’ve worked with many producers, and for me, it’s always important to work with good producers. I’m very happy to be working with Swastik Productions.
The show Veer Hanuman is being shot in Umargam, and you have to stay there. How difficult is it for you?
It’s quite difficult for me because I’ve always been very close to my family, and whenever I’ve been away, they used to visit me. I think that will still happen now.
When shows are written that are based on mythology and history, where you don’t know how the character will be and have to imagine it yourself, how challenging is it to perform, and what is your process of understanding the character?
Swastik Productions does a lot of research on every show. They portray every character very well. They told me to play the role of Anjana Mata in my own way and show whatever I feel. It was quite freeing.
Such mythological shows have unique costumes. What do you think about the attire you wear for your role?
I would like to give full credit to my hair, makeup, and costume designer for my look. When I asked the team about the attire, they told me that my costume is inspired by the sculptures found in the caves of Anjanta. My look also has a South Indian touch. Honestly, I love my look. Also, Swastik never just gives random costumes; there’s always a reason behind every design.
During the shoot, when you were calling out to Maruti with maternal affection, we could see the love in your eyes. What would you like to say about that?
Whenever I do any shoot, the first call I get is from my dad, who is my biggest critic. When I shot this scene, my dad called and said, “You did a great job.” Personally, I always try to give something new with each scene.
There are many other actors in the show. How does it feel to work with them?
They are more than just actors; they are performers. The advantage of working with performers is that even if we are new, they bring so much experience to the table, and that helps make everything better. I’m really happy to have the opportunity to work with such talented actors on this show, and it's beneficial for me.
We hope your character is loved by the audience. What would you like to say to your viewers?
My viewers have always supported me, and I hope they enjoy my work in this show as well. I’ve never disappointed them, and I don’t plan to. I’d also like to ask them to watch my show, which will air Monday to Saturday at 7:30 PM on Sony SAB.
