Shabad is a Story of Struggle Between Tradition and Identity; Guppi Touches Me Deeply – Mihir Ahuja

Film actor Mihir Ahuja recently opened up about his latest web series ‘Shabad’. In this conversation, he shared insights about his character Guppi, the preparation for his performance, working with co-actors, and the life lessons he gained. According to Mihir, this character is not just a story but reflects the struggles faced by today’s youth, trying to balance dreams, tradition, and family. Here’s what he had to say:

How did you prepare for the dual-identity character of Guppi, confident on the football field but bound by family traditions at home?
Guppi dreams of becoming a footballer. On the field, he feels confident and is the captain of his team. But at home, his father wants him to follow the family tradition of becoming a musician, like his grandfather and father. Guppi doesn’t want to go against his father or hurt him, but he struggles to become what is expected of him. This inner and outer conflict is the essence of the story. Respecting his father while staying true to his own identity is the heart of ‘Shabad’.

How did your journey with this project begin? How were you selected for it?

When I first met the director and showrunner, they explained the entire story. There was no big audition, just a look test with the turban on. They trusted me, and I promised to transform myself completely—losing weight, looking like a 17-year-old, everything. I felt it was a privilege to be part of such a great story.

What was your experience working with co-actor Mahi Raj Jain on set?

Mahi is an incredibly talented actress. Despite her young age, her eyes reflect vulnerability and truth—it’s remarkable. Every co-actor taught me something—discipline and professionalism from one, simplicity and emotion from another.

What life lessons did this project and character teach you?

I have always been spiritual and believe every experience has a lesson. This character taught me to never give up. No matter how many obstacles life throws, there is always a solution if you are determined. Another important lesson is to remember where you come from. Never forget your roots. The values your parents taught you are the foundation of your life.

Which actors and directors inspire you, and who would you like to work with in the future?

I have always dreamed of working with certain directors whose films I admire, as well as actors I respect. Meeting one of my favorite actors was a privilege, though I haven’t worked with him yet. I also wanted to work with a particular mentor, which I am fortunate to have done now.

What message would you like to share with young audiences and aspiring actors?

Whatever you do, do it with full dedication. Work so hard that your entire universe seems aligned with your dream. But never forget to respect your parents. When they call, answer immediately—they just want to hear your voice. They love you unconditionally.
