Gaurav Khanna: Life choices and strong values build character

“I always say that my life is the sum total of all the choices I have made so far. Whatever I have done in life reflects somewhere in the person I am today. A human being evolves gradually, and the foundation laid during that phase is what ultimately strengthens the entire structure. My mother always used to say that if the foundation is strong, the building automatically becomes strong.

I consider myself fortunate to have had a childhood that was full of fun and learning. I learned a great deal from my family, my parents, and my teachers. Childhood was not limited to playfulness and fun; it was the phase where my thinking, values, and direction in life were shaped. Who I am today—my ideology, my thoughts, and my principles—are all rooted in my childhood. For that, I am truly grateful to my parents, who instilled the right values in me.
When it comes to food, it holds a special place in everyone’s life, and for me too, it carries beautiful memories. Honestly, this isn’t just about childhood—even today, the food I love the most is what my mother cooks. Especially her besan laddoos. I have never tasted laddoos like those anywhere else, in any shop or market. Their flavor is not just about ghee and gram flour; it carries my mother’s love and warmth.

My mother is an excellent cook in every sense, and perhaps that is why I have been a bit of a foodie since childhood. The taste of home, the warmth of the family, and food cooked by my mother—these are the things that made my childhood special and strengthened the foundation of my life. When I look back today, I truly feel that my biggest asset in life has been my childhood, which shaped me into the person I am today.”
