TV Actor Shagun Pandey Interview: Talks Saru, Ved Birla Role & Mayapuri Nostalgia

Television actor Shagun Pandey, known for his roles in popular TV shows like Meet (2021) and Mera Balam Thanedaar (2024), will soon be seen in Zee TV’s upcoming show Saru. In this show, he will be portraying the character of Ved Birla. Recently, he gave an exclusive interview to the media. In this candid conversation, Shagun spoke about his unique character in the show, his preparation, career experiences, and his nostalgic memories associated with Mayapuri magazine. • You’re making a comeback with ‘Saru’. How does it feel?

It feels amazing. It’s like we were just talking yesterday, only the story and the character have changed. When your own people believe in you and support your new work, it means the world.

• In a past interview, you mentioned that you’re not leading the show but supporting Saru’s journey. That’s something rarely said by actors. What’s your perspective on this?

I’m an actor—give me a film, a TV show, or even TikTok—and my performance will remain the same. It’s not necessary for the story to always revolve around me. Balance is important in this industry. I’ve had the opportunity to express my creativity in women-centric stories, too. If my role helps strengthen the female lead, helps her rise—then that’s the real victory. Being a support system, being the backbone, is just as significant as being the hero.

• This time you're playing a professor. How different is this role from your previous ones?

Every character carries its own significance. With each role, your voice, expressions, attire, and discipline evolve. I don’t just want to be a typical TV hero. I want that when I turn 80, and Mayapuri features all my roles together, none of them should look or feel the same.

• You’ve had a long-standing relationship with Shashi Sumeet Productions. Would you like to share something about it?

Yes! There’s a funny story—I wasn’t even allowed into their office for four years. There was an elderly man who would always send me away. And yet, it was the same company that eventually believed in me when no one else did. Now, I’m working with them on my fifth show. I’ll never forget their trust. I’m like that horse for them that will still run even with three legs.

• What message would you like to give to your fans?

I don’t know what tomorrow holds or whether I’ll get another project. But when I came to Mumbai, you all held my hand and never let go. I’ll keep working hard—I just hope your support continues.

Shagun Praises Mayapuri

During the interview, Shagun Pandey praised Mayapuri magazine, saying, “Mayapuri is a part of every household. As a child, when we waited at the bus stand and saw Mayapuri on the magazine stalls... and now, to be featured in it feels like a dream.”
