Alia Bhatt, after her stunning debut on the Met Gala red carpet last year, is back for the second time to be a part of what is often referred to as 'fashion's biggest night'. The event took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, where The Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani actress impressed the audience in her Sabyasachi saree adorned with delicate embroidery and precious gems.
Matched with the theme
In line with this year's Met Gala theme, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion", Alia's outfit was carefully chosen to match the theme. The saree had a 23-foot-long train, with hand-embroidered floral embellishments using silk floss, glass beading, and precious gems.
Talked about the outfit
Talking about her outfit, Alia said, "I am feeling very good. I'm so excited that months of preparation have come to this moment. I'm wearing Sabyasachi Mukherjee. This is my second time at the Met and my first time wearing a saree. When I thought of 'The Garden of Time' theme I thought there was nothing better than a saree with all the hand embroidery. It took 1905 man hours and 163 artisans, workers, and everyone to make this outfit.
The reason to choose a saree?
Talking about why she chose the Sabyasachi saree for the Met, Alia told Vogue India, "What attracted me to this look was what was so special about it – how it combined traditional craftsmanship with something avant-garde. This combines with great aesthetics." She also spoke openly about the fact that this was her first professional commitment after the birth of her daughter Raha. “So this is the longest time I've been away from my daughter Raha and, she's almost six months old now and I've only been away from her for like 24 hours before, like a day and now it’s been almost four days. As soon as I wake up, I get a few seconds to video call her."
