Actress and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut's film Emergency is just a few days away from release. The film has become a topic of much discussion even before its release. Kangana Ranaut is playing the role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film. Now the Delhi unit of Shiromani Akali Dal has urged the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to stop the release of Kangana Ranaut starrer Emergency. They say that the film has the potential to incite communal tension and spread misinformation.

Let us tell you that in his letter to the Censor Board on 28 August 2024, the party's Delhi president Paramjit Singh Sarna said that the recently released trailer of the film Emergency "shows incorrect historical facts, which not only misrepresent the Sikh community but also promotes hatred and social discord". He said that such portrayals are not only misleading but are also extremely derogatory and harmful to the social fabric of Punjab and the entire country.

Along with this, the Delhi unit of Shiromani Akali Dal further said in its letter that civil rights were suspended for almost two years during the Emergency imposed by the then Gandhi-led Congress government on June 25, 1975. The party's Delhi president Paramjit Singh Sarna said, "Given the potential of this film to incite communal tension and spread misinformation, I strongly urge the CBFC to exercise its authority to stop its release. A thick line must be drawn between the right to freedom of expression and the dissemination of hateful content that threatens the harmony of our society".

Earlier, before the release of Kangana Ranaut's film "Emergency", Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has demanded a review. Reacting to the trailer of the film, he expressed concern that the Sikh community should not be defamed. On Wednesday, 21 August, SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami, while addressing a press conference, demanded an FIR against Ranaut and objected to the film Emergency. He said that there have been many such incidents in the past when the sentiments of Sikhs have been hurt due to the wrong portrayal of the community in films. Demanding a ban on the film, he called the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) 'biased' and urged the inclusion of Sikh members in the censor board.

Apart from Kangana Ranaut, Emergency also stars Anupam Kher, Milind Soman, Mahima Chaudhry and Shreyas Talpade. While Shreyas Talpade will be seen playing the role of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Anupam Kher will be seen in the role of Jayaprakash Narayan. Late actor Satish Kaushik will also be seen in the role of former Deputy Prime Minister of India Jagjivan Ram. Emergency has been postponed several times and is now scheduled to release in theatres on September 6, 2024.
